First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

I am SO SAD that OUTLAW has been cancelled. Jimmy was GREAT as was the rest of the cast. Great story lines to boot.
I hope another network will pick this up.
I was wondering how long congress would let his show go on. I told all my friends as well as colleges they would pull the plug. They don’t want the cover-ups, kickbacks etc.. being exposed. After all, like Mark Twain said “We have the best government money can buy”. I guess we can say the same for NBC executives. Take your kickback, payoffs etc… and shut down a show that focused on just that type of corruption. I do hope a network that has values will pick it up. I for one am a big fan!
I agree with the people above, I was shocked to hear the show was cancelled. That was a big mistake!! This was a truly fine show well written and acted. Jimmy Smits and the rest of the cast were great!! The stories excellent and interesting!! There’s so much crap on tv , shows that should have been off the air are still on, while something like this goes by the wayside. Shame on you tv execs. BRING THE SHOW BACK!!!
ps. They also cancelled a show called ‘Cane’ staring Jimmy Smits, which also was a great show!!!
We were always waiting for outlaw as a family ever Friday night. This is sad, I thought Outlaw to be one of the best shows out there. I think the ratings are cooked.
How dare they cancel such a thought provoking program. Every show was great kept my interest for the entire show. Jimmy played the role sole as well as the supporting cast I am so sick of “reality show full of nonsense. Please they need to keep this show and put it in a better time slot/
I wrote directly to NBC when I saw the schedule. Not fair, Jimmy is fantastic and the show was GOOD! I taped Blue Bloods and watched Outlaw and watched my tape the next day. Can’t fight Tom Selleck, he’s fantastic too. Actually, not enough Tom on the show. Outlaws writers knew what they were doing. It makes people feel good to see someone fight for the little guy.
How dare they cancel Outlaw! It was my favorite of all this year’s shows. Loving Tom Sellek, we taped that show and watched Outlaw. Jimmy Smits is fantastic. Do we really need all the reality shows or “news type” shows???
Im so tired of good showes being cancelled!!!Put it on a good night, nothing lasts on Fridays.Im tired of reality tv,is so scripted, and they deny it.This is why I dont mind paying for showtime or HBO.At least you get a whole season. We all need to complaine, just tell me who to write and Ill get to it,and spread the word!!!!Love Jimmy Smits, great actor!!!
I think the reason the ratings were low were due to the day/time of show! I loved this show and watched it faithfully for it’s portrayal of current events. Jimmy Smits is a great actor and this is the perfect character for him. I agree with others that if the shows don’t attract a much younger audience (who isn’t at home on a Friday nite, duh) the networks seem to disregard them. I’m 57 yrs young and this is my kind of show…BRING IT BACK…and yes 2 hours of Dateline is way too much and puts me to sleep. Get… Read more »
Can’t believe that once again a favorite show is cancelled and though I’m a
Selleck fan I preferred to watch Outlaw which had humor, suspense, and a character who is less than perfect. Pretty soon I just won’t watch new shows anymore, and Lord knows there are more than enough news and talk shows.
Too bad we have to be penalized for poor planning. This was one of the best shows I’ve seen in awhile. Jimmy Smits is an outstanding actor and perfect for the role. In fact, I chose Outlaw over Blue Bloods and I love Selleck. Change your plans and bring it back it deserves a fair chance.
BTW get rid of Dateline. Two hours of filler in primetime. I’m insulted.
I Love the Show, I love Jimmy Smits, I think it should be moved to another night or time because it comes on the same time as Blue Bloods with Tom Selleck I love Tom Selleck also but chose to watch Outlaw. I also loved Cane, great show, great Smits!!!
I agree, too many talk shows and reality shows.
What? If it’s not a “reality” show or one that teeny-boppers watch it gets the ax?? Intelligent, well-acted series are hard to come by, and this one is superb, so I guess that means it has to go. Grow a pair and keep it on the air, even if you have to move it!
First “Cane” was cancelled – it was an excellent show! Now, “Outlaw”!! What is going on? Jimmy Smits is a great actor!!!! I am REALLY ticked to see this show cancelled. Hope another station picks it up and continues for years as others have. Get with it NBC!
NBC, how many times are you going to shut down good shows. You cut “Jag” after 1 season. CBS picked it up and had a hit for 10 years. “Hill Street Blues” was dumped and then brought back when the viewers all but revolted. Why don’t you give a good show a chance to establish a following? Four shows is not long enough to develope the memory of when it airs. Use your heads fellas, keep “Outlaw” on the air. With the world we live in, the writers should never run out of material.
bull crap, best series ever, something stinks. political crap going on maybe?????????
my self and many friends going to boycott whoever was responsible. start standing up
people. for every thing. open your eyes America !!!!!!!!!!
