First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

So NBC cancels Outlaw but keeps Outsourced – one of the stupidest shows ever on TV? Obviously there are some very ill-advised people running that network. Very sad to here this show has been cancelled…it has only gotten better with each episode.
i loved the show they always seem to take off the good shows my husband and i a really upset by it like judy said somen other network should pick it up
reason it was cancelled is because of the night it is on
not as many people watch TV on friday/saturday nites
better night, would still be on
love the show!
there are many others not nearly as good
really sorry to see it go
No wonder NBC can’t compete with CBS. They air a new show that has the opportunity to be good and before they even give it a chance they cancel it. What do they expect? a show they air for a couple of months to hit top ratings when they cancel every good show they come out with? They don’t even give viewers a chance to like a show. Frankly, it’s going to take longer to draw an audience on anything NBC airs for the simple fact that they aren’t competitive with CBS. I am upset that they cancelled it so soon, not giving it a chance to build ratings. I liked the show and felt it was somewhat different than other lawyer type shows, but it was entertaining and Jimmy Smits is an excellent actor. Another network should pick it up.
Loved the show as did everyone I talked to. Friday eve. Is dinner night for many people. BAD timeslot! The show was destined to fail. Boo NBC. This explains a problem with viewer loyalty.
I am furious that this show had been cancelled! I love jimmy smits! I so wanted this show to not be cancelled! Please bring it back!!!
I really like Jimmy Smits, it’s to bad the network cancelled it.
We love Jimmy Smits and all of the actors in this show. And the characters too. Big mistake cancelling this show!
Very disappointed to see this show canceled. Loved Smits character as it was so different from the characters he has played in the past.
I am sorry to see the show go. I am a fan of Jimmy Smits. There are plenty of other shows that should have been cancelled and not this one.
Too bad., Good show.
NBC IS STUPID
I have been a big fan of Jimmy Smits since LA Law. I really enjoy Outlaw and have watched it each and every week.
It never fails. The networks air a well produced & acted show, & then after a mere couple of episodes decide it will be cancelled. I realize the 49-60 year old demographic may not be the popular one for the networks, but we do exist & we are one of the largest groups. All the reality shows are becoming tiresome. At the end of a long & very real work week some good entertainment is greatly appreciated. Check the percentage of people who say hell no this show should not be cancelled. That should give you some idea of its… Read more »
Outlaw is a good show. My husband and I don’t watch it in it’s regular spot, but we always watch it later on Prime Time on Demand. It is one of the shows we always watch together. Why do they always drop good dramas with good characters and an actual plot, but leave the stupid reality shows on?
