First, FOX cancelled Lone Star and then, ABC cancelled My Generation. Not wanting to be left out, NBC has now cancelled Outlaw. The Jimmy Smits series has ceased production but viewers will still be able to see the remaining episodes.
Outlaw follows a Supreme Court Justice (Smits) who decides to step down and go back to being a lawyer in order to fight injustices. The NBC series also stars Carly Pope, David Ramsey, Jesse Bradford, and Ellen Woglom.
The series debuted following the season finale of one of NBC’s biggest shows, America’s Got Talent, and could only attract moderate ratings. In its regular Friday night timeslot, Outlaw’s ratings have gone from bad to worse. This past Friday, the show hit a new low in the 18-49 demographic with a 0.9 rating and fell to just 4.10 million viewers. It was in last place in both categories.

As we previously reported, NBC shut down production last week, supposedly wanting to wait to see if viewership got better in later weeks. If that was actually the case, they didn’t wait very long. Outlaw has been cancelled and the cast and crew won’t be returning to production.
For the time being, NBC will fill the 10pm timeslot with an expanded edition of Dateline. The four remaining episodes of Outlaw will be seen on Saturday nights starting on October 16th. An episode won’t be seen on October 30th because of a previously schedule Shrek special. The last episode of Outlaw will air on November 13th.
What do you think? Are you sorry to see it go? Why do you think it didn’t attract a bigger audience?

I loved Outlaw and we still watch it. It has what it takes to give other shows a run for the money. Put it up on Thursday against CSI. I would bet on Outlaw hands down to come out on top
really liked the final episode, which let Jimmy show off his well-articluated Spanish at length in a Mexican court. (No, I don’t speak Spanish myself.)
This episode made me want to see more! Too bad that’s all there will ever be.
Just another reason to not tune in to NBC. Outlaw was a great show, I hope someone else can acquire the rights to it. The cast, acting and story lines were excellent, NBC made a huge mistake.
Cancell a good show and then leave on all the cartoon shows on primetime and all the stupid reality shows. Law and Order gets cancelled, Outlaw gets cancelled. Lets just all watch cartoons…… Reality shows are ridiculous, Conan Obrien is ridiculous but Jimmy Smits he is a great actor….
I liked the way each episode focused on a relevent legal issue. Through the characters and plots the viewer forms more of an opinion on issues facing the nation. Wisdom and being smart are shown as virtues; often it differentiates a top attorney from a losing one. Thus, an average Joe American can become an American Hero by researching and discovering the winning answers to the issues. Each of the episodes show Jimmy Smits winning based on his street smarts and college learned skills. Smits made it easy for the viewer to enjoy the performance of the character that had… Read more »
This is why NBC has been in last place for, I don’t know..ever.
LOVE this show! Why on Earth was it cancelled? Great writing, great actors – bring it back!!
I thought the story lines were great and so was the acting. How do they expect a show to have fabulours ratings on a Friday night??
Good show, cleverly written. Sorry to see it cancelled especially with all the other junk on TV that is left on.
I wish NBC would stop canceling shows they start. This is the 3rd or 4th show they have put on the air and then axed it for no good reason. Then they put some crappy show in it’s place.
Great show, good storylones, really good acting. I m suprised and very disappointed to hear the series is being cancelled!!!
Why does a show have to be on the monday or tuesday night slot in the first place? Are these the only two nights of the week? Put it back on on another night. The scenarios are good, the actors are good. I thought Jay Leno was kidding when he said NBC loves stricking new series out.I’m beginning to think he was serious about it.
I wish “the suits” would get some real opinions from real viewers for a change. They put good shows on nights that they can’t possibly do well or put them at the wrong times. Doesn’t anyone at the networks have any common sense?
PUT IT BACK ON!!!!! Some of us just might have the intellect to enjoy a show that’s something other than a mundane, senseless reality show.
I liked this show and am sorry that it has been cancelled. Is there anything that the viewers can do to change NBC’s decision?
oops…”hear”…as a teacher you would have thought I could have caught that little mistake…in my defense – I teach science and math :-)!
