Could Peaky Blinders become a musical? Recently, creator Steven Knight told Deadline the BBC Two TV show may be adapted for the stage.
The historical drama, which airs on Netflix in the U.S., follows a family of gangsters in 1920s Birmingham, England. The cast includes Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Iddo Goldberg, Annabelle Wallis, Sophie Rundle, Joe Cole, and Ned Dennehy. The show has already been renewed for seasons four and five.
Speaking to Deadline, Knight said he’s been approached to adapt Peaky Blinders into a stage musical. But will it actually happen? Knight remarked, “Never say never. I always like doing different things.”
Star Cillian Murphy said it’s a “mad” idea that could work, but he won’t be involved:
That’s another iteration that does not involve me. But it’s a mad enough idea that I’m sure it could be amazing. That’s what’s so brilliant about Steve is that he’s constantly coming up with these ideas. He’s so much more than a writer. He’s just an all around entrepreneur, or polymath. He’s just an extraordinary individual.”
Netflix and BBC Two have not yet announced a premiere date for season four of Peaky Blinders.
