Many medical dramas have succeeded on television and many more have failed. The Pure Genious TV show is a bit unique as it mixes medical cases with high tech. Is this a winning combination for CBS when it comes to the ratings? Is this TV series worth watching? Should Pure Genius be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Pure Genius follows top medical professionals as they team up with cutting-edge tech experts and try to push the boundaries of modern medicine to save lives. Doctor Walter Wallace (Dermot Mulroney) is a disgraced but brilliant surgeon who is recruited by a young Silicon Valley tech billionaire, James Bell (Augustus Prew). Wallace learns that Bell is harboring a secret and he begins to question just what the young founder is really trying to achieve. Others on the team are played by Odette Annable, Reshma Shetty, Aaron Jennings, Ward Horton, and Brenda Song.
Pure Genius debuted on October 27th with a 1.05 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.23 million viewers. It was not a good start and the show’s ratings have gotten even worse. The second episode dropped to a 0.88 rating with 5.37 million.
The numbers have risen and fallen a bit over the course of eight episodes that have aired so far. The show’s averaging a 0.9 demo rating with 5.39 million viewers. Pure Genius is currently CBS’ second-lowest rated scripted TV series (behind Elementary, which airs on Sunday nights at 10pm).
It’s already been revealed that CBS won’t be ordering any more episodes for season one of Pure Genius. Though the network hasn’t cancelled the show, it’s highly unlikely that CBS will be bringing it back for a second season either.
Pure Genius is off the schedule for the holiday but will return in a special timeslot on Sunday, January 1st, at roughly 9pm (it may be delayed because of football). The remaining installments will air on Thursday nights at 10pm. Right now, it looks like the (likely series) finale will air on January 26th.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Pure Genius TV show? Is the show better than the ratings seem to indicate? Should the network cancel or keep it?

We faithfully have watched this program husband and myself—we have recently introduced it to our married children. There are few programs that we watch due to violence and language. We are VERY DISSAPPOINTED CBS MAY CANCEL
THANKS FOR OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE OUR DESIRES PLEASE KEEP
I hope CBS gets smart and keeps this wonderful show. The actors are talented aand engaging. The story lines well written. Don’t let this show slip away.
I love this show. Keep. Keep. Keep
Was very disappointed to see CBS was not renewing Pure Genius. My husband and I were just saying how great CBS was for our viewing this year…Pure Genius, Elementary, Code Black, Macgyver and Scorpion..the only network we watch, but it beginning to appear that won’t be for much longer . Love the angle, focus on the patient ..guess BigPharma shut it down because it showed how medicine COULD be done! Could we get a special 2 hr conclusion to tie up all the storylines???
My wife and I do not watch a lot of shows together. However, we love watching Pure Genius together. It’s a great show from our perspective. Pure Genius is a special and refreshing twist to the shows out there. It’s extremely well written, I love the tech and the amazing characters/actors. Take a chance and order 13 more shows and I bet the numbers will change for the better. Both my wife and I have recommended the show to our friends who have also enjoy Pure Genius. Please reconsider your decision to cancel this series.
Please do not cancel the show I really like it love the cast love the storyline
I Love the show and would love to see it come back next year. The cast is really growing on me and I don’t wanted to end.
I love the show please bring it back it grows on you!
Pure Genius is the greatest show currently on TV. The acting and content is superb. It doesn’t rely on violence or sex like other dramas. The show reminds me of “Monday Morning”, another medical drama that unfortunately was cancelled.
I really enjoyed the show! would hate to see it cancelled! I agree with another viewer….the good shows get cancelled.
This is the BEST show in years. Please don’t cancel it.
I LOVE THIS SHOW. IT MAKE THING ALLRIGHT AND WE ALL NEED A LITTLE OF THAT IN LIFE
I find that the shows that are intelligently written and have great actors in the cast are too often cancelled. This show held my interest every episode. It is highly intelligent but understandable with excellent actors. Once again, the inane and simple are kept and the intelligent and sometimes complex are cancelled. What is wrong with viewers today? And what is wrong with the networks?
Please leave Pure Genius on the air. It embodies what the future hopes of medicine can be & do with the aid of technology for the betterment of man and animal kind. The meeting of bright minds outside of the box.
Thrilling without the usual violence portrayed in most TV shows. Please reconsider. Susan
My point of view too! we loved Elementary because of the intelligence and well written storylines. Sad state when the reality shows, which are stupid and low intelligence hang around …TOO LONG and quality shows are axed after one hit and miss season. Pure Genius was an inspiration and model of what the future in medicine COULD be, had a great cast with likable characters, {James Bell, that guy’s face was soo much fun, his expressions were priceless!! You knew EXACTLY what he was feeling…hope to see him again.}
Please keep pure genius on the air, its the best medical program on t.v., it’s different and intriguing. The actors are cast perfectly. A lot of people that I know watch this, not airing anymore is depressing. Please leave it on.
Reconsider,
Pure Genius is a very entertaining, promising new TV drama. we hope you will reconsider and renew this inspiring refreshing show..
