Court will soon be adjourned for the Mark-Paul Gosselaar drama, Raising the Bar. TNT has decided to cancel the series after two seasons but, there may still be more to come.
From executive producer Steven Bochco, Raising the Bar revolves around a group of law school classmates who work on opposite sides of the courtroom. The drama’s cast includes Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben, Currie Graham, Melissa Sagemiller, J. August Richards, Jonathan Scarfe, Teddy Sears, Jane Kaczmarek, Stacy Hall, Natalia Cigliuti, Paul Joyner, Wayne Lopez, Jon Polito, and Angel Oguendo.
Back on September 1, 2008, the series premiere attracted 7.7 million viewers. That set a record for TNT as the biggest audience for a new series launch on regular cable. Unfortunately, much of the audience didn’t return for later episodes which averaged 5.5 million. Despite an early decline, TNT renewed the series for a second season.

On June 8th, season two of Raising the Bar attracted just 3.6 million and shed half of the audience of its lead-in, The Closer.
As a result of the low ratings, the cable channel has cancelled the legal drama. Via a statement, a TNT representative said, “Everyone at TNT had a great experience working on Raising the Bar with Steven Bochco and the rest of the show’s terrific cast and crew. We’re proud of the series and appreciate the efforts of all of the creative people who were involved. Unfortunately, ratings for Raising the Bar’s second season did not reach the levels required for TNT to renew the series.”
TNT had opted to split the second season into two parts. The first dozen episodes finished airing on August 24th. That leaves three episodes on the shelf. It was expected that they would air in early 2010 but they haven’t been given airdates yet.
What do you think? Are you upset that the series has been cancelled? Why do you think that Raising the Bar failed — acting, storylines, or something else?

Who makes these decisions, I loved this show, TNT you really dropped the ball on this one!!!!
STEVEN BOCHCO WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN THE PRODUCTION OF LA LAW. THIS WAS AN AWARD WINNING SHOW THAT SUDDENLY DISAPPEARED. NO EXPLANATION AND IT NEVER WENT TO VIDEO AFTER A 6 YEAR RUN. ED ASNER WAS THE PRIMARY ACTOR IN THE PROGRAM LOU GRANT. ED ASNER HAD OPINIONS ABOUT US ACTIVITIES IN NICARAGUA THAT COULD NOT BE TOLERATED BY SOME INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE. THUS THE PROGRAM LOU GRANT WAS DISCONTINUED. PERHAPS STEVEN BOCHCO STEPPED ON INFLUENTIAL TOES JUST AS ED ASNER DID. OR PERHAPS IT IS THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR SITUATION THAT I WROTE ABOUT EARLIER. EITHER WAY PRODUCERS WHO WANT… Read more »
I loved that show, very surprised it has been cancelled…to all the actors and creators, you had a great show, no matter what the ratings say!!
The best show TNT had on their station
as a 25yr big city cop ,my wife is a court clerk,we found raising the bar as close to reality as anything on tv.sad to see it go.
Yes,
I’m very upset that Raising the Bar was canceled. I think that it was canceled becauseof poor advertising. I never knew when it was on. I always caught it when I was flicking through channels.
I hope the realize their mistake and bring it back.
What in the world?!!! This was one of my favorite shows! Where is the petition to sign to get this show back on the air I want to sign it. Maybe someone else can pick it up! come on ABC!
The show started out to be okay (not that great!), but then it started to sucks so bad, i can’t even stand watching more than 5 minutes of it. (i’ve started to find most of the casts to be very annoying!!! The show revolved too much on the casts’ relationships and not enough on the case, it was uninteresting and annoying!).
p.s. THANK GOD THIS SHOW WAS CANCELED, maybe now TNT can FILM MORE EPISODES of the CSI:NY!!!
i thought it was a great show. it’s a shame it is canceled.
I just went on line to see when the show will return. Can’t believe it won’t. I’m furious! What can we fans do?
A DEMOCRACY IS A TRIUMPH OF THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR. THAT IS WHY CRAP LIKE I LOVE LUCY COMES ON SEVENTEEN TIMES A DAY FOR FIFTY YEARS , AND QUALITY PROGRAMS GET CUT SHORT.
HITLER WAS RIGHT WHEN HE SAID THAT A DEMOCRACY IS A SITUATION IN WHICH THE OPINIONS OF TWO FOOLS OUTWEIGH THE OPINIONS OF ONE INTELLIGENT PERSON!!
This was my favorite show. I’m very sad it was cancelled!!
I have been waiting for Raising the Bar to return and am so disappointed that it has been cancelled. I was interested in all of the characterss (loved them or hated them, which is real life) and was looking forward to following them into more adventures and interactions with each other. With so many terrible TV shows on, it is a shame when a good one is cancelled. Why don’t they ask the viewing public?
I was channel surfing one day and found this show. I think I started watching The Closer, Saving Grace and Hawthorne because of Raising the Bar. I liked the others, but loved Raising the Bar. I didn’t even know it was canceled until today, when I was searching for a return date. I missed the December episodes…I am sorry that those will be the last. I agree with some of the other fans…there has got to be a better way of allowing fans to help decide which shows to save! We are getting used to letting go of our “loved… Read more »
