Court will soon be adjourned for the Mark-Paul Gosselaar drama, Raising the Bar. TNT has decided to cancel the series after two seasons but, there may still be more to come.
From executive producer Steven Bochco, Raising the Bar revolves around a group of law school classmates who work on opposite sides of the courtroom. The drama’s cast includes Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben, Currie Graham, Melissa Sagemiller, J. August Richards, Jonathan Scarfe, Teddy Sears, Jane Kaczmarek, Stacy Hall, Natalia Cigliuti, Paul Joyner, Wayne Lopez, Jon Polito, and Angel Oguendo.
Back on September 1, 2008, the series premiere attracted 7.7 million viewers. That set a record for TNT as the biggest audience for a new series launch on regular cable. Unfortunately, much of the audience didn’t return for later episodes which averaged 5.5 million. Despite an early decline, TNT renewed the series for a second season.

On June 8th, season two of Raising the Bar attracted just 3.6 million and shed half of the audience of its lead-in, The Closer.
As a result of the low ratings, the cable channel has cancelled the legal drama. Via a statement, a TNT representative said, “Everyone at TNT had a great experience working on Raising the Bar with Steven Bochco and the rest of the show’s terrific cast and crew. We’re proud of the series and appreciate the efforts of all of the creative people who were involved. Unfortunately, ratings for Raising the Bar’s second season did not reach the levels required for TNT to renew the series.”
TNT had opted to split the second season into two parts. The first dozen episodes finished airing on August 24th. That leaves three episodes on the shelf. It was expected that they would air in early 2010 but they haven’t been given airdates yet.
What do you think? Are you upset that the series has been cancelled? Why do you think that Raising the Bar failed — acting, storylines, or something else?

Great show. They need to bring it back!
Will miss the Show alot
I LOVED Raising the Bar and HATE that it was cancelled. I feel like they left us hanging at the end of season 2!
Here is another example of a great show being terminated. I absolutely loved this show. There are so many horrible shows that make it season and season and yet a quality show such as this gets cancelled. I guess this is no different from The Unit, Shark, Cane. I truly miss those shows! TV is all about money…who cares about quality. The dumb reality shows get all of the air these days….Just another way to show how society continues to decline.!
I have just discovered that one of my favorite shows has been cancelled. TNT what are you thinking? Raising the bar was the best…I loved the characters and the plots. I am extremely
disappointed and very sad that it is gone.
I can’t believe they cancelled this show. There are very few really good shows on TV and this was one of them. Maybe if they had not split the 2nd season that would have helped audience viewing. I just happen to record it on my DVR so it picked up the second half or I would not have realized there were more episodes. It was the best series on TNT. No reason to tune into TNT now. It would be great if another network would pick it up.
OH no I did not know my favorite show was cancelled I was thinking what happen but I searched and this is what happen to my show Im extremely disappointed and hurt that this show was canceled.
I am so sad to see that the show has not been picked back up for a 3rd season. I just searched wondering when it would return to find it is cancelled :(. I loved the show.
I have been anxiously awaiting the third season of Raising the Bar, and just googled it to see what was going on with it. I am shocked, shocked, shocked, and super disappointed!!! I would love to see this show pop up on another network. I have been a huge fan of MPG’s for so long, and thought he did such an awesome job on this show. He is so talented, as was the rest of the cast! Again, I can’t believe this, so sad!

I love this show, the problem is I watch 90 percent of the shows online and this show didnt make it online season 2. You miss a fat audience when you do that. We can watch closer and that online. Return the show air it online nd watch the audience grow. This series was not spectacular but it was great and entertaining. The cast was awesome and the story line unique. I wish to see more please.
I am shocked that Raising the Bar was cancelled. There are so few shows in the summer and I couldn’t wait for this to air. What are they thinking? Mark-Paul needs to grow his hair back like in the first season but other than that I am soooo disappointed. How sad.
Very Very Very sad that Raising the bar was cancelled ……………. My husband and I just the other day we talking about the show. We were wondering when new season was going to start. Got on the internet just now and found out the sad news. I never missed an episode…. Stephen Bochco is amazing writer! I hope some other network grabs it because they will benifit. I WILL MISS IT!!!!!
I am very dissapointed that tnt canceled raising the bar….I hope it comes back some where,,I will be there…
I agree with most of the other posts. I seldom watch TV and abhor most of the series on the networks. Raising the Bar was interesting, well acted, and very engaging. I was really looking forward to the new season but just found out today that it’s been cancelled. What a disapppointment.
To Whom it May Concern, I was extremely upset when Raising the Bar was cancelled. I now rent the Netflix of this series and it isn’t the same. What was TNT thinking?! I hope that the producer (Steven Bochco) searches for another network that would be willing to take on this amazing show! I didn’t know this show was cancelled until Hawthorne started its new season. I truly hope that something is done to bring back Roz, Richard (my favorite) Jerry Kellerman, Marcus, Balco, Michelle (I don’t like her character but she keeps things interesting) Trudy, Jerry’s laywer girlfriend and… Read more »
