As we reported last year, LeVar Burton is hoping to revive Reading Rainbow, his long-running but cancelled PBS series, for a new generation. In March 2010, he said, “You heard it here first… Reading Rainbow 2.0 is in the works! Stay tuned for more info.”
Though there hasn’t been any new news on the revival, Burton is “actively plotting” a Reading Rainbow Flash Mob. According to his tweets, he wants to raise literary awareness and is looking for volunteers — celebrity and otherwise — to help him make it a big event.
To get the ball rolling, he’s leveraging his 1.66 million Twitter followers to ask people to join his mailing list at this site.
Head on over to the site to sign up because, as Burton would often say on the series, “you don’t have to take my word for it…”
What do you think? Would you like to take part in the Flash Mob?
Is PBS replacing the show with a reality series??? I mean why keep good educational tv shows on???
Did you ever watch the old reading Rainbow? When I was young that show was the show that taught me to love reading even though i have dyslexia. I used to HATE HATE HATE reading but now I love it.
I have to say, it’s a good idea — reading awareness and all that. But this has got to be the strangest news I’ve read in a while. Just… odd.
