FOX has announced that the three unaired episodes of Red Band Society will run on two consecutive Saturdays — January 31st and February 7th — but that will be the end of the series. There won’t be a second season.
A dramedy, Red Band Society revolves around the young patients and caretakers of the pediatric ward of the renowned Ocean Park Hospital in Los Angeles. The cast includes Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Charlie Rowe, Astro, Zoe Levin, Ciara Bravo, Mandy Moore, and Rebecca Rittenhouse.
The series debuted in September to unimpressive ratings and the numbers got much worse in subsequent weeks. It was no surprise when FOX chose not to order any additional episodes. Traditionally, that’s a sure sign that a series will be cancelled but word is that FOX and ABC Studios each made efforts to keep it going.
Though Red Band Society’s ratings were too low to keep it on the air as a regular season show, the network wanted to keep it — potentially as a summer series. The catch is that that would have required a lower licensing fee. It’s a high-end series and budgets for summer shows are really tight. In the end, it’s not a big surprise that a deal couldn’t be worked out with the studio for FOX to keep it.
Execs at ABC Studios also really like the series so they tried shopping it to other outlets to keep the show alive. Ultimately there were no takers so the series is now dead.
Red Band Society will end its short run on February 7th with a pair of episodes. Hopefully the finale will give dedicated viewers some sense of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Red Band Society? Are you sorry that the show’s been cancelled? Would you have followed it to another channel?
The main thing this show has taught us is to fight for what you believe in, but you also can’t get what you want so I’m here to say that even though this tv show’s odds weren’t in there favour I will always and forever be a RED BANDER
Please bring it back
Im very upset! This show touched on things that children like me would have never stopped to think about. For example life for those who have it harder than us and for the children who cant explain what there going through for there to be a way to show people. This touched on so many topics and just recently one of my friends is facing cancer and lost her leg. This show made every visit for her and me at the hospital so motivating. This might not have been the best show out there but tell me what show promotes… Read more »
well, maybe Red band Society was not the most realistic tv series about life into a hospital, but i have to admit that this is smt difficult to succed. However, i was really related to some of the characters and i’m sure i was not the only one, so a second season would be awesome for all of us
i wished that it could have continued because it shows the difficult problems that other kids have to deal with .
This show helped pediatric children fighting through horrible terminal life sentences. Every child needs to feel like they have someone there to love, protect, and most importantly just be there for them. This is a show that depicts real life issues that matter more than what outfit to wear, how you’re going to afford a new car, or what you need to get from the grocery store. It also gives us healthcare workers better insight on how to help the pediatric patients we come across. This show actually mentions God and genuinely shows others that the most important thing in… Read more »
I really liked this show and i’m watching the season for a third time. I see why it was canceled but still. It’s a great show and it has helped me even if it’s just a show, its real and alive.
I can’t agree with you more juice
… I watched all 13 episodes yesterday until night, and now I was searching and hoping for season 2, but after I read this, now I am very sad, because I liked this show more then others…
Well for logical reasons, i understand why the show was cancelled, but to that effect, I do not know why it had such low ratings. This is one out of many shows that speak to real issues, real diseases; though there are other medical shows that bring out this issue with diseases, other aspects such as emotions, professionalism and family battles, and how all this ties in with medical intervention is drawn close to the human natural reaction and not as portrayed by movie stars. We can also agree that many medical shows, though they deal with medical issues, becomes… Read more »

Red Band society was my favorite show I’m super disappointed to hear that there is not going to be a second season.
I really really would like to see the show continue. I am really sad about the fact that they decided not to continue it because of the ratings. The ratings go down because people only watch the kardashians and other stupid stuff like that. But this… This is the real life to me. This show with its little and big stories gave me hope. This show may be the best one I have ever watched in my entire life. I cried along with every broken character… I am afraid to say I lived with the show, I got so connected… Read more »
I have finish watching all the episodes, i think just this June 2016, been searching for the next episodes for how many weeks already but was so saddened and it breaks my heart to have learned that the show got cancelled. I actually and honestly think that THE SHOW DESERVES TO BE BACK ON AIR, have more episodes and last a long time not just because of how much i and the people who commented here have loved it but because this show can actually INSPIRE and ENCOURAGE more souls and make more people round the globe better understand those… Read more »
