FOX has announced that the three unaired episodes of Red Band Society will run on two consecutive Saturdays — January 31st and February 7th — but that will be the end of the series. There won’t be a second season.
A dramedy, Red Band Society revolves around the young patients and caretakers of the pediatric ward of the renowned Ocean Park Hospital in Los Angeles. The cast includes Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Griffin Gluck, Nolan Sotillo, Charlie Rowe, Astro, Zoe Levin, Ciara Bravo, Mandy Moore, and Rebecca Rittenhouse.
The series debuted in September to unimpressive ratings and the numbers got much worse in subsequent weeks. It was no surprise when FOX chose not to order any additional episodes. Traditionally, that’s a sure sign that a series will be cancelled but word is that FOX and ABC Studios each made efforts to keep it going.
Though Red Band Society’s ratings were too low to keep it on the air as a regular season show, the network wanted to keep it — potentially as a summer series. The catch is that that would have required a lower licensing fee. It’s a high-end series and budgets for summer shows are really tight. In the end, it’s not a big surprise that a deal couldn’t be worked out with the studio for FOX to keep it.
Execs at ABC Studios also really like the series so they tried shopping it to other outlets to keep the show alive. Ultimately there were no takers so the series is now dead.
Red Band Society will end its short run on February 7th with a pair of episodes. Hopefully the finale will give dedicated viewers some sense of closure.
What do you think? Did you like Red Band Society? Are you sorry that the show’s been cancelled? Would you have followed it to another channel?
I think that there should be a season 2 of red band society, I know quiete a few ppl which it. It is an excellent show and where it left off is awful there needs to be more! PLEASE KEEP THE SHOW MAYBE JUST CHANGE THE DATE ON WHICH THE SHOW IS ON, PUT IT ON A FRIDAY!!
Would like this show to continue and I
Don’t care which channal
This show has a loyal following. No one is ready for it to be over. The characters are interesting, and the concept is different. The premise takes what should be sad and morbid, but because the cast is young, the show is very full of life! It’s so much better than some of the other shows that are kept on; the Goldbergs, ALL of the reality shows, etc. Please give it another life on another network
PS: I want to know how the gang faired with their illnesses…Bring it back!!!!!
I loved it. I love a medica show and this one dealed with different issues young teens have to live with or die by. Shows also how parents can or cannot cope. If they can’t the tools are there for them. Please bring it back. Even as a summer thing. During the summer I watch Switched at Birth and Devious Maids. Have since they both started and I would love to add this to my summer collection.
Loved this show! Why are all the great shows cancelled?? What is wrong with Fox???
I am going to miss this show so much!! I wish they could have made a second season with new characters and stick with some of the old characters to mentor the new kids in the hospital
One of the best shows !!!!!!! Bring back red band society !!!!!!!!!!! People are tired of all the reality shows, Red Band was a great show, BRING IT BACK !!!!!!!!!!!
Love this show!!! It’s such a disappointment that it won’t be renewed for a second season. The season finale had me in tears.
Was shocked to hear the words”series finale” last night while watching Red Band. I loved everything about this show – writing, acting, RELEVANCE . I’m very surprised ABC Family didn’t pick it up. Great show – so sad!
I am extremly disappointed. This show has kept me on the edge of my seat since it started. I think the producers need to check in with ABC Family, this would be a great show for that network!!!!
The 2 hour finale was awesome (as was EVERY other episode this wonderful show offered) but it’s so sad that I won’t be able to see this incredible show any more. I wish they would just listen to the fans of this show, word of mouth would spread and it would do better in the ratings. That’s just the thing, it needs more time to raise its ratings since it never had any big introduction for people to even decide if they’d be interested in watching it or not. Not sure, maybe it was just me but I (pretty much)… Read more »
I am so upset that first we loose parenthood and now the red band society and what’s next. Why don’t we just take off every show that teaches us about real people and just leave on shows about violence and crime and see how much more our world can teach young people and others about nothing but crime. This show was great and I think people did not discover that as they did not have time . I say we better start to keep more shows like this on so people learn of something other than crime. Just sayin!
the characters and the message behind it was amazing and touching. I hate to see it go & I hope FOX can find a way to revive it #redbandersforlife
I hate that the show is over so soon
