The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Rubicon is my favorite show on television, right now. I will be heartbroken if it’s not renewed. I’m usually traveling on Sunday nights, and most hotels do not have AMC. Since I can’t be without this show, I paid for the season pass on iTunes. I absolutely love this show.
Love the show. Hope it comes back!
YES, RENEW! …took a while to understand what was going on, but definitely brain exercise…not pap for the masses. Very intelligent.
Love, love, love Rubicon. Count the days, minutes till it returns each Sunday night. Great writing. I like the change in current from slow and meticulous to breakneck – sucks you in and makes you a part of the events. Keeps you looking at every nuance, clue, word to guess and put the intelligence together yourself. Keep it up.! Love Mad Men also. Keep it up!
Rubicon was a slow build, but it has totally been worth the wait and I will be a sad girl if it is not renewed. I love a show where if you look away, you miss something – and that something is something key to the plot.
Absolutely, Rubicon should be renewed.
It took them 12 hours to make 4 hours of a show, and my guess is they will pay for it. I am tired of hearing ‘oh for the first season its not bad’. Nonsense. The first 10 weeks were boring, very boring, it was only 11 and 12 where anybody A)knew what was going on and B)Cared about any of the chacters. Shame on these producers for having a great idea and then ******** it up.
Absolutely love it. Want to see it renewed.
I am loving Rubicon – an odd, driven, intelligent drama. The last few episodes have been increasingly nail biting – So hoping this returns for a new season. It really is different to anything out there!
YES. YOU MUST BRING RUBICON BACK FOR SECOND and MORE SEASONS. I for one, am so sick and tired of CRIME DRAMAS on the big 3 networks. They’ve become a joke, so pervasive…is this all those networks can dream up…year after year…same old crap, new actors, different packaging.
AHHH….Mad Men, Rubicon, Breaking Bad. AMC, THANKS FOR OFFERING RIVETING AND FRESH PROGRAMMING!!
It should be noted, too, that Back Stage has listed it as renewed on earlier notices, as well… at least as far back as mid-September. If it is an error, they’ve repeated it more than once (or “Renewed” means something different to them than it does to us! 😉 ).
In fact, for a good conspiracy theory drama, gimme a This Is Not My Life over a Rubicon any time.
Meh. Intelligent, yes. But boring as heck. I’ve been loyal – watched 12 of the 13 eps – but I don’t think I could handle another season.
I have been watching Rubicon in Australia and am so pleased to see an intelligent show, minus the usual action and inappropriate humour that has come to characterize US dramas in recent years. Please, some more of the same!
Excellent show! Has gotten much better as it progressed.
I love Rubicon, that and Mad Men are my Sunday night guilty pleasures. As I recall Mad Men was not a huge ratings winner when it first aired, but being given a second season it picked up steam. Anyone who hasn’t watched Rubicon really needs to give it a chance. It’s a well written fantastic drama with excellent writing and acting. I do hope AMC renews this gem of a show for a second and hopefully future seasons.
