The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

best written show on TV, amazing cast of actors. great direction, AMC is nuts if they dont renew
Here is what the producers of this show may not realize…it is time to stop relying on the old rating system when it comes to deciding to keep good shows on the air. 1) I watch almost all of my shows on the Internet and not on my television. 2) I save up episodes so that I can watch 3 to 4 of them in a row and not have to wait 7 days for a new episode. 3) a lot of people wait for their shows to come to Netflix so that they can watch them there with no… Read more »
Intelligent, thought provoking, stylish and well acted. Some of the best drama I have seen since moving to the states four years ago. More of the same please. For those who can’t keep up? Too bad… Jersey Shore is on the other side…
HaHaHa!!!!
I hope more than anything there is a renewal for this show. The ratings may be low, but only because it’s first season and it was under-advertised. Also it’s probably way above the head of your average joe, but I think AMC will be good enough to renew it. Fantastically written and executed show.
One more thought – kudos to AMC! Talk about changing the subject, as Peggy advised in Mad Men. AMC has been brilliant at changing its image by taking artistic risks like Mad Men and Rubicon. And just as in Rubicon, a number of viewers say that Mad Men is boring. So what? Our new segmented viewership system can handle it. Thank Goodness we do not all have to watch the same few mass produced shows like we used to.
This is one of my favorite shows – at least up there with Mad Men. PLEASE renew it for another season. People will find it. The problem this year was that people could not figure it out at the beginning and gave up. But, word of mouth (at least from me) is great and next year viewers can find it.
This is one of the few shows that I make an effort to see. Also watch the reruns during the following week to catch anything I missed in the first airing.
Great characters, writers, storyline and suspense.
Love the show!!!! My new favorite!!! Please bring it back! It’s original and written with intelligence. Nothing like anything else out there.
We love the show- please bring it back!
This is one of my favorite shows. I record it so that I can watch at my leisure and give my full attention. I hope it has a second season. There are more characters to be explored.
One of the best shows ever to hit television. Brilliantly written, well acted and well cast. I agree, quietly explained throughout. Requires an inkling about what’s really going on here–or belief that it is–to follow it. Even then–a welcome intellectual challenge. Nothing as it appears. Keep it going!
I have not been enticed by any television show in the past ten years. I LOVE this show, and certainly hope that it sees a 2nd season! Absolutely love the suspense, the slow and deliberate revealing of the plot… and you just know that there are some crazy twists and turns ahead!
How dont see how people can say they didn’t know what was going on. Its been quietly explained throughout the entire series. For those who don’t need the plot spelled out to them in the first 3 episodes, this drama is riveting. Its an interesting take on Government sponsored terrorism with a few men reaping the rewards through corporations. Love It!
I think Rubicon can be a great show. However, it took entirely too long for the story to develop. They could have accomplished the back stories in about 2 to 3 episodes. I will continue to watch and hope there is a season 2, but I can tell you there were a few weeks that I thought about dropping out.
This is a fantastically written show. Please bring it back
