The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

Do not cancel Rubicon – love it!
My husband and I are totally hooked on Rubicon (especially my husband). It’s the first show he has been excited about in a long time. Please renew for another year!
BEST SHOW NOW ON TV.BRILLIANT.BRING IT BACK FOR SEASON 2.
Great show with a greater cast. I have no idea where it could go in season 2, but AMC has had some great awards and publicity so maybe they can ride this one until the viewers come around. Please!
An absolutely great show that deserves at least one more season.
I won’t be surprised if Rubicon isn’t renewed, but I hope against hope that it is. Breaking Bad and Mad Men are the two best dramas on television and Rubicon holds its own among good company. Rubicon’s writing is truly brilliant and lacks the self-conscious, overwritten pretentions that sometimes bog Mad Men down. It’s a show that deserves to succeed, but the kind of show that will only ever find a niche audience. However I disagree with the claim that the show may fail because too many viewers are “idiots.” West Wing was a popular success and had brilliant writing.… Read more »
Sarah digressed: “This is why we have a republican mixed government and not a direct democracy—and why the disastrous effects of the various states’ experiments in direct democracy should’ve been easy to foresee.”
It only took 200 years for us to turn that on its head. Now, apparently, Americans want to elect people as dumb as they are. Anti-intellectualism is rampant in politics (“I’m you, you betcha'”) and right-wing political media today (it may move to the left wing media eventually, too, for all I know). Our democratic republic was good while it lasted….
Can’t wait to see the finale. Please renew this intelligent show.
Another season, please! This series is the sleeper of 2010, unfolding like a classic “spy thriller” but with the sophistication for viewers today. People may not watch it immediately after Mad Men on Sunday night, but may later on– non-cable folks like me buy the digital and enjoy it at our leisure. The line-up may definitely have something to do with the stats– it’s one rich dessert too many to enjoy all in a row, which should tell AMC how good it is. Rubicon is visually arresting, the cityscape plays a role– it’s not glossy and neither are the characters,… Read more »
Rubicon is a great show. We watch it and Mad Men and that’s it! It has a very interesting storyline and it pulls you in slowly which is better that 50 minutes of a nice tidy weekly drama.
The development of the characters is outstanding.
Big fan of Arliss Howard. He plays his part extremely well.
It has to be renewed. AMC should show the first season again after the football season is over and promote it.
Rubicon is by far the greatest show on TV right now an DESERVES another season
Wonderful show – please renew.
Another year please. I would be sorely disappointed if Rubicon only stayed for this one season. The characters are interesting, plot is intriguing, photography and cinematics are mesmerizing, and the whole show is heads and tails above anything else on TV. I do hope Rubicon is renewed for at least one more season.
Rubicon is the best show on TV. The “problem” is that any idiot will likely not understand the show. However, if you liked “The West Wing”, “The Practice”, “Sports Night”, “Boston Legal”, or “The Paper Chase” (LONG AGO) you probably will appreciate Rubicon. I guess they need to add a soundtrack, shootouts, car chases, and T & A by Britney Spears or some other (former Disney) bimbo to get some attention. Why is it that EVERYTHING in America is dumbed down so much that only those with a 2-digit IQ can enjoy it? Let’s hope AMC grows a pair and… Read more »
This show deserves another season. Thoughtful plot and characters are hard to come by on TV. The twelve episode season has been way too short.
Love this show. Its the best thing on television and deserves to be watched by many more. It was not well promoted I fear but I would love to see another season. Come on AMC wake up and treat us to more.
