The AMC series has not been performing well in the ratings but, according to a listing in the Backstage industry casting paper, Rubicon has been renewed for year two. Here’s their info:
Rubicon (Drama, AMC) A think-tank analyst comes to the realization that his colleagues are not who he thought they were and may be a part of a covert organization secretly manipulating world politics and affairs. James Badge Dale stars. Casting: Avy Kaufman Casting, 180 Varick St., 16th Fl., New York, NY 10014. Premiered Aug. 1. Renewed.
Last Sunday’s episode attracted just a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 997,000 total viewers. That pales when compared to AMC’s Mad Men which scored a 0.6 demo rating and 2.1 million viewers.
The Backstage listing seems like it’s most likely a typo or error because, for now, they seem to be the only one saying there will be another year.
The season finale of Rubicon, “You Can Never Win,” is set to air next Sunday on AMC.
What do you think? Would you like to see Rubicon return for another year or should it be cancelled?

I agree with Paul about it starting slow and being the reason why the viewership numbers are in the lower range compared to AMC’s counterparts. Once episodes 3 and 4 get way the show takes on a more exciting path. Connect the dots!!!! Lol What’s funny is if one connects the dots of all three AMC shows such as Mad Men, Rubicon, and Breaking Bad; the common denominator of these is that some character gets hooked on drugs. This seems to be a commonality in all shows of recent and it is getting old. I enjoy Rubicon because I am… Read more »
I love this show! Please renew it…
I love Rubicon! It’s one of the few shows on TV today that reflects what TV should be creating. Sometimes a show needs time to build its audience show some patience you will be rewarded.
Hands down, best show on TV!!
I would hate for this show to be cancelled. It think it is one of the BEST shows on television, up there with Mad Men and Breaking Bad. I love that it’s slow paced, because it’s like drinking a fine wine, reading a great novel, or savoring a piece of delectable, rich chocolate. James Badgde Dale and Arliss Howard are amazing in this show. I just wish Miranda Richardson had been cast in a role like Dale and Howard because she is a fantastic actor and she has such a limited role as a widow stumbling through the conspiracy. Rubicon is by far the best show on TV! It takes some intelligence and attention to details to understand it which unfortunately cuts out a high percentage of the potential audience in the US. Should do great overseas. Can’t wait for season 2.
I fervently hope it’s renewed. The subtly nuanced plot and terrific acting make this the smartest drama on TV. I’m particularly impressed by the unsettling diction of the oily reptilian villain Truxton Spangler played by Michael Christofer and the meaning-laden almost poetic delivery of Arliss Howard as Kale Ingram. A rarity in my experience, this show is as artful and engaging as a well written novel.
I would be terribly disappointed if this show is cancelled. Actually I am saddened that we approach the season finale.
My favorite show, too. Mad Men had been. Followed by The Closer. But Rubicon has take over first place and moved them both down one notch each. It has had me hooked from day one. Yes, some episodes were a bit slow. But never so much so that I didn’t want to keep tuning in. And the last few episodes have been extraordinary. I love not knowing who to trust. First it was Spangler we had to sort out. Then Kale…was he to be trusted? And how about Will’s girlfriend across the way? Oh may they keep this treasure going!
genial absolut i want saison 2 and 3 and 4 and more
The best shows are not always appreciated in the first season. Hopefully AMC will renew and give Rubicon a chance to pick up more viewers. It would be a tragedy to drop this show considering all the material they have for future plots. Rubicon is my favorite hour of the week. If AMC does not renew it is my hope that it is picked up elsewhere to be continued (HBO? Showtime?), but that change will take even more time and after this Sunday’s season finale many of us will be in withdrawals.
Love the show. Lots of intrigue with enough complex characters to root for and against. It also has a one of the best opening musical themes on television. I hope the rumor that it has been renewed is true. Its not often we get an intellectual show like this that does not over use violence as its main source of fear and intimidation. Just the the threat of it sends chills to the viewers and characters.
Rubicon, this intricate, mosaic-like, construction, seems to me much like a fine novel with an intricate interwoven plot, much beautiful prose, distracting mayhem, and hidden menace. Episode 2, “Patterns,” is extraordinary. The plan seems to have been to lay down some elements, presage the ending, then distract us with loose ends. I think that when Rubicon is renewed — really, how could they not! — the first season will be studied over and over again, for cinematography, elliptical story-telling, and ultimately cohesive storytelling. I watch it over again the next day after I first see it; then as questions arise… Read more »
Terrific show. Makes one think and has many subplots and many characters that need time to develop. Unfortunately most TV viewers want immediate gratification and don’t want to wait for something to build. A major difference with 24 is that they had an explosive ending every episode and Rubicon leaves one thinking hard not breathing hard.
AMC should put it on after MM, not before.
If true, this would be fantastic news. It’s the best show on television. Damn ratings!
Great show. Best show on TV since 24 and has exaclty the opposite pace of 24. I can see why it would be too slow for a lot of viewers. Every scene is very subtle. The suspense builds slowly but steadily like a Hitchcok movie and when somehing bad happens is carries more wieght. The sense of fear and paranoia is always there underlying everything and the conspiracy that is finally being uncovered is really a nasty one. Can’t wait to see what happens next and hope to see another season. Don’t know how they can keep this pace for… Read more »
