ABC Family has decided to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.
In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).
Things change when Patrick’s former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David’s previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn’t want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who’s a rising star on her own.
The show debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making Ruby the second best sitcom launch in the network’s history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and the sitcom lost steam in the following weeks. While the network has renewed 10 Things for another 10 episodes, ABC Family has decided to dump Ruby after one short season.
The final episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the episode, titled “Smells like Teen Drama,” Jordan and Ruby compete for the attention of the same girl. Privileged’s Lucy Hale guest stars as Ruby’s best friend and Jordan’s new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ben is being bullied at school. David and Patrick want him to fight back while his mother has a very different point of view.
What do you think? Should the show have been cancelled or did ABC Family make a mistake?

Unbelievable! What the heck is wrong with ABC Family? Only ten shows? For goodness sake give the series a chance. This is the number one reason I watch very little TV nowadays. I am so sick of reality TV and gameshows.
Viewers just got accustomed to this show and they yank it. By the way…try promoting the darn show after it hits the airwaves. Saw a lot of promotion before the premiere then… nothing. Its your fault ABC!
To cancel the show after 10 episodes is a big, big mistake!!!
It was my absolute highlight this summer
The show has many talented actors and is very funny
I was really loooking forward to the second season , and right now I`m very disappointed
I hope and cross my fingers that ABC family rethink their decision and give them a second chance
I think it was a good family show and am shocked it was not renewed. It wasn’t really even given a full season. I hope ABCfamily will rethink it’s descision. Prehaps the ABC network could pick it up for an audience which serves all the USA and Canada, to give it a second and fair chance. I don’t think there’s been that kind of real family chemistry since the days of Ozzie and Harriette, it’s been great watching the show knowing that’s there’s real family members working together. That’s part of what made Ruby and the Rockits so enjoyable to… Read more »
They made a HORRIBLE mistake! Ruby & the Rockits is one of my all-time favorite shows! Ever since the first episode, I fell in LOVE with it. They need to bring it back for another season & give it a chance.
Big mistake! This show is great! I too hope Shaun takes it to another network! It was definitely the best show this summer!
One season? Doesn’t seem like they gave it much of a chance.
Big mistake to drop it after one series and now I really hope another network will pick this series up and run with it. It made both generations in my family laugh and was the best thing this summer.
I thought the show was very funny and am very disappointed that it is being canceled. I was look forward to another season. I think it is a mistake. It is better than many shows out there.
It’ was pretty good. I’m surprised ABC Family was so harsh., Seriously.
ABC Family messed up. Shaun should take the show to another network.
ABC did make a mistake it’s better then lots of the shows out there. They should give it a chance. I would put more music in the show and have Ruby sing more.
Definitely a mistake. This show has been the highlight of my summer.
only 10 episodes probably won’t even be enough for DVD. I thought they were just hitting their stride and the upcoming episode with Shirley Jones would probably have garnered more attention.
ABC made a big mistake. It was a good show with many talented actors. They should rethink this decision. I had all age groups in this family watching it and enjoying it.
It was a horrible show. Not surprised it was canned.
ABC made a mistake. They should give it at least another season.
