ABC Family has decided to pass on ordering a second season of its freshman sitcom, Ruby & the Rockits.
In Ruby & the Rockits, former teen icon Patrick Gallagher (Patrick Cassidy) has been living quietly with his wife (Katie A. Keane) and their two sons, teenage Jordan (Austin Butler) and sarcastic preteen Ben (Kurt Doss).
Things change when Patrick’s former band-mate brother, David (David Cassidy), shows up with David’s previously unknown teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega). David doesn’t want to give up his show-biz life and leans on his brother to help raise his daughter, who’s a rising star on her own.
The show debuted on July 21st to 1.6 million viewers and 654,000 in the 18-49 demographic, making Ruby the second best sitcom launch in the network’s history. It even built out of the audience of fellow freshman comedy 10 Things I Hate About You.

Unfortunately, those numbers didn’t hold up and the sitcom lost steam in the following weeks. While the network has renewed 10 Things for another 10 episodes, ABC Family has decided to dump Ruby after one short season.
The final episode is scheduled to air on Tuesday, September 22nd. In the episode, titled “Smells like Teen Drama,” Jordan and Ruby compete for the attention of the same girl. Privileged’s Lucy Hale guest stars as Ruby’s best friend and Jordan’s new girlfriend. Meanwhile, Ben is being bullied at school. David and Patrick want him to fight back while his mother has a very different point of view.

Although it was nice to see David on TV again, this show was bad. David hated playing Keith on the PF and his character on Ruby was no better. When I first heard this show was in the making I could not believe David would ever play this kind of a character again. He needs to take on a more serious role. Wow, I can’t believe you won’t be renewing Ruby & the Rockits! That fast? What’s up with that? ABC never even gave it a chance! I think Alexa Vega is great and the show was really funny. My young teens enjoyed it and downloaded the music. A shame that that stupid reality junk still floods the TV but a nice family show gets dumped before it even starts. Bad decision.

We enjoyed watching the show as a family. With the lack of family shows on these days, what a surprise that ABC family would cancel such a good show. Bring it back!

Wow, I’m shocked! I love Ruby & the Rockits. It is good family fun. It has been a long time that I have laughed at a sitcom. It is just plain funny without resorting to sex humor. Shame on ABC Family for cancelling this wondering show.
After the first two episodes the show’s storyline was basically the same every week, sweetsie Ruby trying to get everyone to get along, her father being stupid, the uncle trying to be famous again, the aunt trying to be 17 again, a half-wit teen son lusting after his female cousin and wise cracking younger son. Gee, I guess I misunderstood the whole ABC Family thing. I thought this was a network that concentrated on airing shows the whole family could watch together and enjoy. Ruby and the Rockits is exactly that, a great family show. Too bad they weren’t given time to develop a larger following.
What the hell is going on with ABC Family? Are you serious cancelling Ruby & The Rockits? If I were you I would give that show another chance.I’ve been watching that show since it’s beguinning and I really enjoyed it.This was a great family show.The Cassidy brothers(David & Patrick) were hilarious.And I think Shaun did a great job writing that show.And as for Alexa Vega she has the sweetest voice I ever heard.I just love hearing her sing.This show is a winner,so please bring it back on the air.Thanks!
What in the world is ABC FAMILY thinking? this is a really good show…..give it another chance !!!! They are making a huge mistake………very disappointed. It was also voted best show of the summer…
what is wrong with abc family? ruby and the rockits does very well in ratings every week and they are going to cancell it. BIG MISTAKE for them.
I can´t believe what I am reading. The show is having very good ratings, even some critics love it. “Ruby & the Rockits” is one of the funniest show I´ve ever seen, people can see the good feeling between the whole team and this make it so much enjoyable to watch.
I really do hope that ABC family rethink their decision. Please, give them a second chance, they deserve it!.
The show is hilarious. I don’t think it belongs on ABC Family, it belongs on a more mature channel. Big mistake just cancelling it!
