TNT has announced that their Holly Hunter drama is coming to an end. Interestingly, it wasn’t exactly the network’s decision. But, regardless of who’s responsible, the fans will have to wait quite awhile to see the story wrap up.
Saving Grace focuses on a police detective, Grace Hanadarko (Holly Humter), wo’s great at her job but finds her personal life far more challenging. The series also features Leon Rippy, Kenny Johnson, Bailey Chase, Laura San Giacomo, Gregory Cruz, Lorraine Toussaint, Dylan Minnette, Bokeem Woodbine, Mark L. Taylor, and Tom Irwin.
The show debuted in July 2007 and attracted 6.4 million viewers, making it the highest-rated cable premiere so far that year.
Season two’s debut attracted 5.2 million and, this past June, season three’s return drew just 3.5 million. TNT remained very positive about the series, likely because it consistently rates first with adults 25-54.

Last season, the network ordered a second season of 15 episodes. The first nine aired during the Summer of 2008 and the other six began running last March. TNT ordered the same number for season three and the first grouping finishes its summer cycle this Tuesday.
According to THR, TNT wanted to pick the series up for a fourth season but Fox TV Studios actually declined the offer. The drama is an expensive one to produce and there’s apparently not enough profit in the cable deal for the studio to continue.
A spokesperson for Fox told Variety, “In today’s rapidly changing television world, shows need to drive revenue off too many sources in order to be profitable for all the partners. Unfortunately, the economics of the series mandated stronger international and ancillary revenue than the show was able to generate. We thought an appropriate ending after three extremely successful seasons was the best outcome for all parties involved.”
Since the series has several ongoing storylines, Fox and TNT agreed to produce three additional episodes to wrap up any loose ends. The network will combine them with the remaining installments from this season and hold them until next Summer. So, fans will get some closure to the series but they’ll have to wait a few extra months to get it.
Michael Wright, TNT’s Executive VP head of programming, is sorry to see the show end. In a statement, he said, “The show’s continued success is thanks to the amazing talents of Holly Hunter and [series creator] Nancy Miller, along with a tremendous ensemble cast and a highly skilled production team. They have taken us on a unique journey, and we look forward to seeing where it will ultimately lead.”
What do you think? Are you ready t say goodbye to Grace Hanadarko? Would you like to see the cast return, perhaps in TV movies?

My family recently discovered the series of Saving Grace, Holly Hunter is an magnificent Actor. The show is about hope and faith in a modern day script. Why….why would TNT cancel such a wonderful show. Please re-consider we are hooked on the show. With today’s economy American families need TV shows of this magnitude
They lost viewer ship due to bouncing the shows around during the year. You have to keep shows stable to keep the viewship up. Dumbasses.
Six weeks ago, we had not even heard of this series as its little “billing” in the UK. However after parting with cash for Series 1 and then Series 2, we are hooked. It is one of the best series to come out of the US for a long while and puts to shame a lot of the cr*p reality TV we are having to put up with in the UK (not me, I cannot bring myself to watch it). I think it is a real shame that more Series are not going to be produced and do not buy… Read more »
Hopefully another network will pick up this wonderful show and have the brains to make it work. Saving Grace is more than any other reality show could ever be, it is the ultimate reality show. It used to be that the TV viewing audience could petition the networks to continue a show and they would reconsider but now all these mega networks don’t really care about their viewing audience. I think there must be more to it than what we’re being told because Grace was a good money maker. Has anyone heard if Holly Hunter or any of the other… Read more »
SAVING GRACE is THE BEST show on TV! Thought provoking with real story lines rich with characters that assimilate real life and real issues. Its a huge mistake to cancel this show! Guess the big-wigs in charge of these decisions are bent on feeding programming (reality show crap, etc.) to viewers that contributes to the deliberate dumbing down of America.
I CANNOT believe you’re taking this one show off the air!! Its the one show my husband and I look forward to watching each week. We can not wait until Monday nights just to watch this show! Why not take one of the really bad shows off, like the so called “Reality “shows. I’d rather watch paint dry!! YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE!!
PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!!!
Saving Grace is absolutely the best series that we have ever been blessed with on cable t.v. The characters are so true to life and relatable, and the acting is spectacular. The whole idea and concept of the show is brilliant. I am heartbroken that it will not be renewed for a fourth season…it’s enough to make me not watch any more tnt programs at all! WHY do the most excellent programs get cancelled so fast? If there is a campaign to get this spectacular show back on the air, please let me know, because I will be the first… Read more »
All the really intelligent programming is being dumped. They don’t want us to think or feel anything that they can’t make money on.
I am so dissapointed to hear that Saving Grace is being cancelled. It is absolutely one of the best shows on TV. I am not surprised though all the good shows are cancelled while the STUPID reality shows are left on forever to torture us.
Yet another show canceled! To all of the networks you are making it easier for me to cancel my cable & not worry about watching tv. Finally I had found a few shows that I didn’t want to miss & I got sucked in & now they are canceled. Saving Grace & The Cleaner are two that I looked forward too, this is why I never really got into watching a series, you get hooked & then it’s canceled. I don’t who the boneheads are that make decisions for the average person that actually watches TV, but we don’t want… Read more »
OMG! Please tell me that there is a network smart enough to recognize the talents of this show and the following that demands it be kept on the air. I am beside myself. I would rather throw my TV out than watch half the drivel that is currently passing as television entertainment. Bring back my Saving Grace!
There are hardly any shows that aren’t fake, full of perfect people with no bags under their eyes blablabla. Seriously, there is much more worse crap on tv than what is shown in this series. The people in this show look real, not wearing clothes no one can afford in real life, or caked in makup and look so perfect no one could come close to knowing how they would look in the morning. They all look natural, and they convey natural feelings. They are not embarrased to show how people really are not just behind closed doors. And at… Read more »
What is it with the big network executives anyway, the put shows on that find a devoted following and then for whatever reason they pull the plug and leave us fans mad and hanging. Saving Grace is such and interesting show, nothing like it on TV , a true ground breaker with a huge fan base. TNT/FOX are pulling the plug on a ratings hit just one more reason to stop watching TV all together now. Every series I’ve gotten in to for the past 4 or 5 years has been canceled for one reason or another, these were good… Read more »
“Saving Grace” is one of the best tv series I have ever watched. It saddens me to learn the upcoming 3td season will be the last.
Someone at TNT needs to rethink this! With all the so-so shows that continue to run on TV, Saving Grace is a quality show that should continue for years!
TNT – you are making a big mistake by cancelling Saving Grace. All those reality shows, soaps and other CRAP on tv are for the lost, stupid, or just plain ignorant majority in this country. My intelligence is insulted daily just by turning on Fox news and that’s only the beginning. I guess unless you’re on Christian broadcasting you can’t mention GOD without some morally bankrupt person waving $$$ in front of you to stop. I’m giving up cable altogether. Those of you in charge will be left with a whole lot of useless, uneducated viewers who can’t pay their… Read more »
