After seasons of poor ratings and several cast members moving on, ABC has finally put the Scrubs TV show to rest.
Scrubs follows hospital life as seen through the eyes of Dr. J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff). He left Sacred Heart last season but returns occasionally to help teach a new crop of med students. Others in the cast include Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalke, Eliza Coupe, Kerry Bishe, Michael Mosley, and Dave Franco.
Last May, despite poor ratings, ABC decided to try to squeeze one more year out of the veteran sitcom. The reason? ABC also produces Scrubs and stood to make big money on additional episodes in syndication.
The network kicked off season nine late last year and registered a low 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 4.5 million viewers. The numbers dropped even further and ABC decided to burn off most of the remaining episodes in January.
In March, ABC aired the final episode of the season. The network’s website promoted it as the “series finale.” We contacted a representative for ABC who told us that it was a mistake but nobody was in any rush to change it.
Now, it appears that ABC has finally cancelled Scrubs after nine seasons on the air. With more than 180 episodes, the sitcom won’t be coming back.
What do you think? Should Scrubs have returned after last season’s Braff send off? Did you like the “med school” setting and characters?

They should have stayed off after season 8. The finale was so good, to bring it back after that seemed a little ridiculous.
i love scrubs but am always so busy and now i feel horrible for not watching regularly now that its cancelled.
i love srubs i ant believe it is cancelled 🙁 i love every episode that i watched and even the new ones 🙂 my fav out of the new ones would of had to be cole aka dave franco i wish we got to see more of him acting like. even though over here in northern ireland we havent really gotten new episodes like season 7.8.9 i think but i know we havent got season 9 yet but if they did air it over here they would get lots more ratings ause i know alot of people would watch it… Read more »
I’ve always loved Scrubs. And the new season was great. I really liked the new characters that they brought on. I wasn’t sad to see JD’s character leave. Honestly, he was just getting on my nerves. It was a good time for him to move on. I’m really sad that it’s been canceled. I would of really liked to see the new characters develop some more.
Sad, yes. Its cancelled. But to say that you’re going to drastically change all the cast members, wow!!!
I was so faithfull until 9th season. I bought t-shirts and all. I’m upset that it doesn’t continue the way it does. It was the funniest show ever, but it lost…lost…all humor when a bunch of new cast members showed up. Hate to see it end.
I’m actually very disappointed that Scrubs is cancelled. I like the change in the dynamic and focus on the new characters. I thought it was refreshing to hear new stories. After 8 seasons of J.D. and Elliot tip toeing around what we all knew would happen it was a welcome change that still had the same feeling of comedy that the original incarnation had. I will be sad to see it go.
I thought the show was great. It would’ve probably been a better idea to end the show right after Season 8. Though the idea for the spin off to the original was a cool idea, the idea was awesome, new main characters and what not. Though, Lucy being the main character was a baaaaad idea. I disliked her as the main character of the show. The only time I actually enjoyed most of the episodes, is cause of J.D. narrating the show. It’s something about him narrating and the background music kicks in. The jokes for Season 9 were not… Read more »
I really likes season 9. We didn’t get enough time to really get to know them. I wanted to see the relationships and characters grow. I think if given more time with the new “Med School” concept, it would eventually grow in ratings again. I for one am sad to see it gone. I will miss all the regulars and the new “I never got to know you” cast as well.
Peace to all
The first two years were great, the characters were fun and the show had a heart. After that, a long slide into mediocrity. J.D. was the most annoying character on the show and he was never funny. I loved the other ones, except for The Todd. The Scrubs musical was a high point but reinventing the series as a medical school was wretched. It felt like the actors were just saying whatever came into their heads and it was clear that the producers were just running out the clock at that point. Heather Graham as Molly Clock, Jordan, Kelso, Sarah… Read more »
I think they should cancel it after season eight. Last episode of that season was THE BEST ending I ever seen. So far I am still not ready to watch season nine and poor comments and ratings looks like I will never do (at least soon).
SCrubs was one of the best series of ALL TIME until the last couple of seasons. The writers couldn’t come up with any creative story lines. As for the new cast, we didn’t vet enough time to get to know them so it’s unfair to judge. They were competing with a legendary cast. I’d still watch it and still watch re-runs daily. Love ya s\Scrubs!
I think it was really gay that they canceled the show, because I think it was a funny show.Scrubs should of never been canceled.
More like 9 seasons too late. Scrubs has never been funny. Smartest decison NBC made was to cancel scrubs. But then ABC picked it up. The only thing going through my mind is: WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then they renew it. Again WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now they grow somewhat of a brain and cancel it. Now I suggest reading what I have to say about them canceling Better off Ted.
dude do you even know what’s funny??????????? i think not.
Two seasons too late. The last one was just painful to watch.
Scrubs was a series that has always entertained me. Even in it’s new incarnation, I enjoyed it thoroughly and would have continued to watch it faithfully.
