After seasons of poor ratings and several cast members moving on, ABC has finally put the Scrubs TV show to rest.
Scrubs follows hospital life as seen through the eyes of Dr. J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff). He left Sacred Heart last season but returns occasionally to help teach a new crop of med students. Others in the cast include Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalke, Eliza Coupe, Kerry Bishe, Michael Mosley, and Dave Franco.
Last May, despite poor ratings, ABC decided to try to squeeze one more year out of the veteran sitcom. The reason? ABC also produces Scrubs and stood to make big money on additional episodes in syndication.
The network kicked off season nine late last year and registered a low 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 4.5 million viewers. The numbers dropped even further and ABC decided to burn off most of the remaining episodes in January.
In March, ABC aired the final episode of the season. The network’s website promoted it as the “series finale.” We contacted a representative for ABC who told us that it was a mistake but nobody was in any rush to change it.
Now, it appears that ABC has finally cancelled Scrubs after nine seasons on the air. With more than 180 episodes, the sitcom won’t be coming back.
What do you think? Should Scrubs have returned after last season’s Braff send off? Did you like the “med school” setting and characters?

GOD DAMN IDIOTS LET NEIL FLYNN GO NO WONDER THE SEASON FAILED THE JANITOR AND TED WERE BY FAR THE BEST CHARACTERS. OH AND DOUG TOO
BRAIN TRUST FTW!
The 9th season of Scrubs was very refreshing with the new characters. Instead of cancelling, they should promote the show more and combine the new med-school settiong with the old. Letting JD become a part of their learning.
I totaly agree
Really gonna miss Scrubs 🙁
I dont get this you guys, scrubs was a briliant show and even how hard it may be it was still funny whitout zack, anyhoeee its a shame its gone im verry dicepointed
When Bill Lawrence talked about doing an extension of Scrubs, in a Frasier-esque manner, I thought it would be brilliant. I watched every episode of season 9, and I felt the powerful ending of Season 8 was spoiled. I’m not sure I would feel the same way had they given season 9 a new title, and truly made it a new show (retaining some of the characters of the original series). That said, I truly respect Bill Lawrence for helping his friends retain employment for as long as he could. If there was a season 10, or a new incarnation… Read more »
Ohhh Come on!!!!!
I loved the 9 season!!!! Why they cancelled every good show???
SCRUBS SHOULD STAY ON THE AIR THERE IS NO BETTER SHOW IN THE UNIVERSE
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SCRUBBBBBSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NO!
best show EVER and now its gone. sad times.
Scrubs: Med School was great! The cast was dynamic and hilarious! I thought it was miles better than the preceding seasons. I’m so upset there’s no new season ;(
Scrubs was a great show that died years ago but no one told them. The Med School thing killed the series.
I was reluctant to watch the new season but when i did i loved it. The new characters really meshed together. But I think they should have stopped with season 8, they had a really good finale and i didnt expect Donald or John to stay around much longer. The new cast could have pulled 3 seasons if they really wanted too.
Looks like the web site’s right. It IS the series finale. Why?
Scrubs Season 9 is very fresh and I like it a lot. The brand new characters have great on screen relationships and I think it is by far the best Season. This coming from someone who was at first reluctant to even like the show after John Dorian left. The relationship between Drew and Denice is fantastic and Denice and Turks friendship blossoming was something unexpected and very funny. They have great funny moments in the show and serious ones. The new style of the show is one that is very epic in my opinion. Show is awesome now. I… Read more »
scrubs was a great show, and i think the main part of that was zach/JD. they should have waited longer between season 9 and 10 to give it a fresh feel. it was well transitioned though to credit the writers (with JD teaching and coming back for a few episodes here and there along with some of the original cast) but the jokes were kind of lame and it felt more like a cheesy sitcom comedy rather than a semi serious comedy/drama and it got boring. could have been better with some work but money is money and ratings were… Read more »
I must have watched every episode from seasons 1 to 8 at least 7 or 8 times by now. I loved the concept of the show that far. I enjoyed JD’s daydreaming sequences and the various character traits of all of the cast (i.e. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, John C. McGinley, Ken Jenkins, Sarah Chalke, Neil Flynn, Judy Reyes, Robert Maschio, Sam Lloyd, Aloma Wright, Christa Miller, and all the other regulars…), especially so JD’s sheepish type, Turk’s self confident attitude, Cox’s self-loving personality with its hard outer shell and soft core, Kelso’s new-found grandpa role, and of course the… Read more »
