Last season, FOX touted Sleepy Hollow as a hit series of the 2013-14 season and gave it an early renewal. How are things looking a year later, as we come to the end of the second season? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
A supernatural police drama, Sleepy Hollow follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), a patriot who was killed 230 years ago. He finds himself resurrected in modern day and partners with a female police lieutenant. Unfortunately, the Headless Horseman has also returned. The cast includes Nicole Beharie, Orlando Jones, Katia Winter, Clancy Brown, John Cho, and Richard Cetrone.
Sleepy Hollow debuted in September of 2013 to a very healthy 3.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.1 million viewers. The ratings dropped quite a bit over the course of the season — hitting a low of a 2.2 in the demo and 6.46 million — but it remained their highest-rated scripted series of the season.
Unfortunately, it’s been a very different story in season two. The premiere drew a 2.0 demo rating with 5.59 million viewers — a new series low. The numbers took a big dip in week two and have gotten worse as the weeks have worn on. A couple weeks ago, Sleepy Hollow hit yet another new low with a 1.2 demo rating and 3.87 million viewers.
Season-to-season, the Monday night drama is down by about 40% in the ratings — averaging a 1.6 in the demo and 4.58 million total viewers.
Will the show be cancelled or renewed for a third season? It could go either way. The network didn’t hand out an early renewal this time around and we likely won’t know the show’s fate until May when FOX’s plans for the 2015-16 season are announced. While Sleepy Hollow’s performance is way down, much of the rest of the network’s schedule is also struggling.
Their decision will likely depend heavily on what new shows they have in development that could be a good companion for Gotham — one of their two new successful series.
But, what do you think? If you ran the network, would you cancel Sleepy Hollow or renew it for a third season? Would you make any changes to attract new or past viewers.
Its a good show another season is good
I think they should bring the show back. The network can’t blame the show for losing ratings, they need to blame the script writers. It’s not the shows fault that the script writers are making lousy scripts. If the network wants better story lines, get better writers. Sleepy Hollow is a top rate show.
In no way should this show be cancelled. It is the best program on tv being both exciting and humorous. It is also appropriate for all ages.
i look forward every week for this show. Please dont cancel!
This is a VERY good show. There are not many today this is clean and has a great story line
Renew this show…..it’s made me look at American history in a different light. Especially I’m from New York. Im taking more interest in Colonial times than ever.
Please do not cancel I love the show never miss it!!!
I loved this season finale, but struggled with the meandering course of much of the season and now think this episode the perfect place to conclude the show.
I love this show …. please don’t cancel it! It is creative and the writers could go anywhere with the storyline!
PLEASE give us a season 3
I love this show. I’m so tired of the carbon copy police shows on TV now. Sleepy Hollow has been a refreshing change. The show did hit a bump during this season but bounced back. Happily they have gotten rid of the characters that seemed to pull the show down. Sorry Henry ,Katrina and Hawley but I found your characters boring. I’m hoping that the writers will concentrate more on the main four characters as they did in season one. My vote is to keep the show for one more season and I hope the writers will work their magic… Read more »
I love the show and would truly be disappointed if it doesn’t return. The show definitely improved in the last two episodes.
The season end was good. Left with the possibility it may come back. It’s a Monday night treat to watch. I truly hope it’s not canceled.
All the shoes I like seemed to have been canceled
. So I guess this is what will happen again
I say give the show a chance for one more season. They’ve morphed the show in the last two episodes. Let’s see where it goes.
I absolutely love this show every Monday night I sit and watch it! I will be really upset of its not renewed for the 3rd season.
Very much agree!! I love this show! 🙂
I love this show! For me it falls second only to AMC’S The Walking Dead. If this show doesn’t get renewed, I will not watch anything else on fox, not even Gotham!!!
