Will the music play on for Sun Records? The CMT TV show recently finished its first season, but what about a second? If renewed, would you keep watching the series?
Based on real events, the music drama follows record producer Sam Phillips (Chad Michael Murray) as he shepherds young musicians Johnny Cash (Kevin Fonteyne), Elvis Presley (Drake Milligan), Carl Perkins (Dustin Ingram) and Jerry Lee Lewis (Christian Lees). The cast also includes Trevor Donovan, Keir O’Donnell, Jennifer Holland, Margaret Anne Florence, and Kerry D. Holliday.
The chances of a renewal for Sun Records are uncertain. The show premiered to a decent rating (for a CMT show) of 0.20 in the 18-49 demo and 971,000 viewers. However, the ratings fell considerably over the course of the eight episodes.
Overall, season one averaged a rating of 0.13 in the 18-49 demo and 585,000 viewers. That’s a considerable drop for a new series on a network that is new to scripted programming. Will CMT risk another season? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.
What do you think? Have you seen Sun Records? Do you think the show should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch?
5/5 update: CMT has decided there won’t be a second season of Sun Records. Details here.
I would not only watch it but would promote it on the upcoming college football games I broadcast.
Got to keep it! This show is very well done, and the truth of the stories is more interesting than any fiction. You’ve got to love COL Parker! 😉
Looking forward to season 2 already!
Really enjoyed this! Please keep it going. Well done and very interesting. Love the actors!
Please keep it. I would keep watching it.
Yes we would !!!!
I love this show. Please do another season. This is an honest series with excellent acting and authentic recreations of the music that changed history and became the unique music of my generation.
Absolutely! It was our family’s favorite show of the season!!
I love this show!!! Its educational in showing the younger generation before their were computers to play instruments and autotune to sing for you there was something called musical artist and it teaches them that you used to you had to have talent to make it in the music business. Maybe it will get them interested in real music and they will go get there parents and grandparents viynl out of the attic and rediscover the greatest music ever made! The rocking roll of the 50s, 60s, and 70s!!! Please bring season 2!!!
Yes, we really enjoy it. We are both 77 years old and remember all of them well. My wife saw Elvis perform in 1956 when he appeared in Wichita. (10th row and She still talks about it)
I would definitely watch a 2nd season I think where the network went wrong is they only aired it one time after Nashville, I think they should have aired both shows at the same time, and I think they would have had more viewers, but I really like the show and will definitely watch a 2nd season…
Yes! I definitely watch a second season of Sun Records. I love Rock n Roll music from Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. It is such a great show. I love how it is based on the true story of Rock N Roll. I love lots of different music. But I love Rock N Roll music from the 50s and 60s too.
Yes, would definitely watch a 2nd season. Show feels very real, and portrayals of famous rock n’ rollers perfect.
Please Renew!!! I love the show!!!!
