It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
Yes, we have been eagerly awaiting news of the beginning of season 2.
We LOVE the show. All the characters are wonderful and the action is exciting.
If I were you, I would make sure that the show is not put up against top rated shows in the same time slot.
Please, please, please continue the show!
Thanks.
My daughter & I just finished watching it on Netflix. Very disappointed that there will be no season 2. Netflix should finish the series!!
I enjoyed the first season and I am disappointed that it has be cancelled. All the good shows get cancelled.
I Really loved the show and though it was a very good spin off from Besson’s film. MuCh better than the American remake. It deserves a second season and I want it done !,
This is a GREAT show! Someone please bring it back. Yes! I would definitely watch more. Why do they cancel all the good shows, and leave the crappy ones?
Seriously? A great show. Obviously, NBC doesn’t care about what people really want. This is a gem. Too bad. Excellent writing, excellent characters…..a second season would have secured it. Great stuff.
I enjoyed the series.. Nice to see some new faces. Too bad it was cancelled.’
Just watched season 1 and was disappointed that series was cancelled. So many other shows on that are not even worth watching. Would definitely watch season 2.
I do not think Taxi Brooklyn should have been cancelled. It was a great show with a great cast. I have been looking forward to its return after the crazy cliff hanger from season one. It is a shame, so many shows are now cancelled after only one season. It makes it hard to want to get vested in a new show because the likelihood of it staying on air is slim and none!!! What a shame!!
I totally agree! I’m starting to assume any new show I start watching won’t make it past season 1.
I loved this show and would watch it on another chammel if necessary. i am stunned to have it end on such a mega dramatic season finale and not continue the story lines. put season two on hulu. PLEASE
I really enjoyed Brooklyn Taxi was very disappointed to hear it was cancelled. Found it on Netflix yesterday .My 14yr old granddaughter had never watched it so we sat through all 12 episodes ,she was upset to find out after it would not be back. It seems like a good show for all ages to enjoy.
Like seriously. I just start watching the series yesterday on netflix and finish watching it today. That’s how hooked i am. And to tell me no more…BS. I don’t know how people get stuck watching Orange is the New Black and Taxi Brooklyn is sure as hell way better. Can’t you guys reconsider bringing it back.
My wife and I just watched on Netflex and found the show very interesting, creative and love the relationships of all the quirky characters. The ongoing thread of the mystery of who killed Cat’s father plus story of Leo kept us hooked.
Very disappointed….. Want to see more.
I enjoyed it very much. Started slow but got interesting and I watched all episodes. Very surprised that it has been canceled and that there won’t be a season 2. I hope someone picks it up and it returns to Netflix.
I am sorry to hear that there not be a season 2. For me, this tv show was a cut above the rest.
