It looks like the ride is over for Taxi Brooklyn. It’s been cancelled by NBC and won’t be returning for a second season this summer.
Taxi Brooklyn follows Cat Sullivan (Chyler Leigh), a tough NYPD Detective who doesn’t let a demotion to foot patrol stop her from trying to find her father’s killer. She finds an unlikely ally in Leo Romba (Jacky Ido), a taxi driver from Marseille. The rest of the cast includes James Colby, Jose Zuniga, Jennifer Esposito, Bill Heck, Ally Walker, and Raul Casso.
The series debuted last June 25th to an unimpressive 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.34 million viewers. The numbers didn’t improve over the course of the season which averaged a 0.9 rating in the demo and 5.0 million viewers.
The season finale of Taxi Brooklyn aired in September 2014 and there hasn’t been any official word from the network regarding the show’s fate. That’s certainly not a good sign, especially if viewers were hoping to see a second season this summer.
Late last year, executive producer Gary Scott Thompson indicated that things weren’t looking good and that they were “running out of time” — likely an indication that the cast contracts would soon expire. Earlier this year, he wrote that, “If history is any indication, we will probably never have official word” [on Taxi Brooklyn’s fate].
When reporting that Leigh had joined the pilot for Supergirl on CBS, TVLine noted that Taxi Brooklyn would not be returning to NBC for a second season.
NBC licensed the show from EuropaCorp Television so their costs are lower. EuropaCorp could potentially produce a second season and find another US outlet to air it but there’s been no word of that. Thompson has said that “it’s up to nbc.”
What do you think? Did you like the Taxi Brooklyn TV show? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season? Would you watch a second season on another channel?
Great show. Right mix. I would make time for this show over any others.
I enjoyed Taxi Brooklyn a great deal. It was somewhat original, funny, at times, and kept my interest…..which is more than I cn say for other, longer running programs. How disappointing to see this show cancelled!
Taxi! Taxi! Taxi! Taxi!…….Need I say anymore? Okay, okay….. Bring Taxi Brooklyn Back…..NOW!!!!!
Horrible ending if it doesn’t come back on. I loved watching season one on Netflix. What happens to momma Sullivan and Nico, his mom, and oh no Ronnie!?!
We deserve a season 2!
I REALLY enjoyed Taxi Brooklyn. The characters were a great fit.. great chemistry. Loved the storylines. I’ve been waiting to see what happened after the cliffhanger. Please don’t cancel this show. Really Good TV is hard to find these days. Thanks.
Yes, definitely another season! I think people should give this a chance I just Netflixed the whole season in a few days and I work massive hours each week. I will probably watch it again to catch the things I missed.
I liked this show and wish it would continue. Maybe Netflix?
Ummm hell yes there had better be a season two and three and four…..
I feel like a relative just died
I loved that show. It was better TV than a lot of the shows that are out there. If there is no season 2 it would be too sad. We will never know if cats mom is okay or niko or Aimee.
It’s gonna suck if it’s gone with so much unsolved mystery out there.
I loved this show I found on Netflix. I looked for a second season and found it canceled because of low ratings. I don’t understand why. I don’t watch much tv because the shows are so bad, boring and stupid. I thought intelligent people rated tv shows but it doesn’t look it.
I loved this show! It was amazing, suspenseful and I want to see another season! Looking at all these comments a lot of people loved it. And I am upset with NBC for not letting it happen.
This is a wonderfully witty show. The cast has great chemistry and the premis of the show gives it an interesting twist. it stands out from the already many police shows on television.
Really enjoyed this show. Loved the characters and story. I was looking forward to seeing a second season. Not sure why such enjoyable shows like this get cancelled when more stupidly ridiculous reality shows continue to pop up everywhere. What a waste of airtime. Not sure what the viewers are thinking if the ratings are accurate.
I think it is unreal how good clean suspense series with solid plots can be cancelled, while series of trash continue to flow through the tv and movie industry. I also think it is rude to end the series, yet not knowing what happens to Leo’s son and wife, and if Ronnie live. I agree with Stacy B. at least make a closure sequence. I say hats off to the producers and cast. I hope there is a change of mind with NBC. I as Jacqueline stated was binge watching on Netflix which is unusual for me!!!
