Though many critics loved the FX series, Terriers just couldn’t attract enough viewers to stay alive. FX has announced the TV show has been officially cancelled.
Terriers follows a pair of unorthodox and unlicensed private detectives. They’ll take just about any job, no matter how small or how strange. The show stars Donal Logue, Michael Raymond-James, Kimberly Quinn, Laura Allen, Rockmond Dunbar, and Jamie Denbo.
The series debuted to a 0.5 rating among the 18-49 demographic and 970,000 total viewers. When compared to other FX shows, that was a poor showing right from the start. The numbers went lower for subsequent episodes and the recent season finale attracted a 0.3 demo rating and 784,000 viewers.
FX President John Landgraf is expected to discuss the decision later today but ultimately the reason for the cancellation seems quite clear.
What do you think? Are you sorry that Terriers won’t be returning for a second season? Why didn’t it catch on? Was it simply a confusing title or something more?

What a stupid move. I have lost the little respect I grudgingly gave to TV executives. The Nielsens are antiquated, and out of touch with the “real” public. My protest is to stop watching their garbage and read a good book!
I LOVED this series! I am so dissapointed to see another great show with good story lines and actors bite the dust. Why is it quality doesn’t make it on FX? Time to change channels.
I’m very disappointed that my favorite show has been cancelled although not a surprise, because I didn’t see it promoted at all…
Don’t know how pablum like the used and trite “Hawaii 50” and “Bluebloods” are the # 1 hits and a show like “Terriers” hits the skids.
Oh yeah, now I know…..viewer mentality and poor promotion. Thanks FX.
Robert Moore has the right idea. I believe the reason so few people saw the show is because so few people were aware that it existed! I could discuss it only with my best friend because he was the only one I knew who watched it. Here in New York City, I didn’t see any ads on buses, bus stops, on billboards, phone booths, or anywhere else promoting the show. How can people watch a show they don’t know is on the air? What a heartbreaking waste of terrific characters and a compelling storyline! Why put a program on the… Read more »
Wow, this is sad. I knew this would happen but didn’t want to believe it. Terriers was so good. Maybe a name change like Terriers: Private Investigators or something. The show had everything but viewers. Another great show we hate to see end. Some other network really should pick it up.
I just have to chime in here. I really have never written to a network about a TV show. I did last week expressing how much I love the show to FX. Obviously it didn’t work. Best show on basic cable in years. Hopefully another network picks it up. What a travesty!
Im so mad about terriers is being cancelled! i love that show!
It is so aggravating to hear that once again, due to mindless execs, a network cancels another brilliant show called “Terriers”. Who are these people and why do they have the decision making power of axing incredibly written shows? These people are morons! I truly love all the shows that are on F/X . They are all unique in their own right, and devoid of brainless drivel that is on the major networks. Needless to say, you(as a viewer) become inclined to believe that powers that be behind this channel are different. After all they are consistently putting out great… Read more »
This show needs to be on tv. Its awesome.
Loved the show. Excellent all the way around. Bring it back for season 2!
Definitely miss this show…
(To any readers who have seen the show. If your big on Mythology or serialized content watch the entire series or watch episodes 1,4,5,10-13. If your more into solo/procedural episode watch episode 3,6-9.) Terriers has some of the most relative characters to date. This show was magic like the first two seasons of Burn Notice but tens times better. This show was great because it knew how to use subtleties and the human condition at top value and also reward viewers with predicaments and action(where were you AMC/Mad Men fans). It may not be Vic Mackey kicking down doors and interrogating… Read more »
I can’t believe that there’s no place on TV for a show as good as Terriers yet we have the Jerry Springer’s and Maury Povich’s filling TV with circus freaks during the day and “reality shows” hogging up the prime time slots. Hey Fox, here’s three shows you can canel to make room for Terriers – – Hell’s Kitchen (do we really need to see Gordon Ramsey screaming at young chef’s for an hour?), Fringe (do we really need a Warehouse 13 wannabee?), or The Good Guys (not HALF the show Terriers is). And on F/X, we get “treated” to… Read more »
It was a good show and I will miss it.
I loved this show! I don’t know why it didn’t do as well as it should. Frankly, I saw almost no promotions for it and the time slot wasn’t the best. I can only hope angainst all hope that someone else will pick it up. Perhaps, if it were on a stronger network, think USA, TNT, or CW, it could do well.
