This week, the ninth season] of The Bachelorette came to a close. ABC has announced that the male version — The Bachelor — will return on January 6, 2014 but the fate of The Bachelorette is still unknown.

Desiree Hartsock may have found love with Chris Siegfried, but the network didn’t find as much ratings love. The show was down significantly year-to-year, averaging a 2.0 rating in the coveted 18-49 demographic with 6.75 million viewers. Last summer attracted a 2.5 demo rating and 7.5 million.

While the numbers were down, The Bachelorette still remains ABC’s top summer series by far. As a result, the network is very likely to bring the series back next summer. Still, ABC has put the show on hold in the past — there was a three year gap between seasons three and four — so they could do it again.
