Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

there’s alot of junk on telev now. We finally got a show on that everyone not only enjoyed but loved. I feel that it is the duty of B .E .T to take over and air this show . You can remove the wendy williams show or cut some time. We have enough white shows on t.v that we are force to watch because of the lack of black shows. I have watched every episode sooooooooo many times! In a way, this show has defined my relationship and other situations in my life. It reallly relates to everyone and should be picked up again! So many other shows are being picked up and cannot compare. The exec’s and network does not know how many people watch this show and is effected!
If TV producers & Executives can bring back old azz shows like 90210 & Melrose place!!!! They can & should bring back The Game, Girlfriends, Everybody Hates(LOVES)Chris!!!!!

I would love for this show to come back. I watched every episode faithfully and you jus left fans hangin after the last episode. We wanna kno wat happens with Derwin and Girl Meloney and the whole baby situation!!!!!!!
YES THEY REALLY NEED TO BRING THIS SHOW BACK…. IT SHOWS WHAT MOTHERS, WOMEN AND LOVED ONES GO THROUGH AND I REALLY DO WISH THEY WOULD PUT IT ON BET BECAUSE BET IS A POPULAR CHANNEL THAT PEOPLE LOVE AND IF THEY HAVE SPACE TO PLAY RERUNS THEN THEY SHOULD PUT ANOTHER SEASON.
I’ve been waiting and waiting. Supporting and hoping that BET Network or any network for that matter bring my favor show back. I love The Game sitcom. I think this show will be a great investment to any Network. The fan base is to strong to be ignored. I’m begging, PLEASE BRING THE GAME BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so why in the world is Terry Crews getting a reality show???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME BET???!!!! I am soooooo siiiiccckkkk of “reality shows”. Don’t get me wrong, I like Terry Crews and I he was great in “Everybody Hates Chris” (which was cancelled by the CW as well- Haters!). But I am not interested in seeing him and his family in yet another reality show!!!! OMG- I LOVE THE GAME and instead of wasting money on “reality” shows just use THAT money to bring back “THE GAME”!!!!!

This is annoying me. I am now becoming disinterested. I am happy that people have petitioned, but damn, if they can give us crappy shows like the Jersey Show that is loved why not have The Game back on too….and make it an hour long melodrama.
This is the best show ever this show love and trusted this is one of the realest show I have looked at in a long time. I was so happey that this was not like all thought reailty TV show that the Game was realy about stuff that happen everday and peopel coming together and if you just end a show like that its just crazy to do so it give black peopel pride and that how i feel about it
