Rumors are flying once again that the cancelled show, The Game, has been picked up by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) for a fourth season. Is it really true this time?
Created by Mara Brock Akil, The Game began as a spin-off of the long-running comedy, Girlfriends. The series centers around a first year medical student (Tia Mowry) who chooses to follow her pro-football boyfriend (Pooch Hall) to San Diego. Others in the cast include Brittany Daniel, Coby Bell, Hosea Chanchez, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Hosea Chanchez, and Barry Floyd.
When The CW cancelled the show last Spring, there was talk that BET was interested picking up the show for another year. The biggest issue would be finances but, since additional episodes would make the studio more money in syndication, it’s in CBS Television Studios’ best interests to work something out. Since BET is a cable channel they likely wouldn’t be able to afford the show “as is” so there would have to be some cost-cutting involved.
Last month, rumors started to circulate that a deal had finally been made. Unfortunately the gossip wasn’t accurate. Via Twitter, Mowry wrote, “I am so sorry to tell you this, this whole THE GAME thing getting picked up is NOT true! After talking to agents lawyers etc it is not true.”

Last week, Sister 2 Sister interviewed Drew Sidora. The singer/actress had guest-starred on a few episodes and, in the interview, indicated that a deal with BET had been sealed. She said, “The show is getting picked up, so for people that have been petitioning and wondering, it is coming back to BET… It is official. The deal has been done.”
Sidora continued, “Everybody that petitioned — believe it or not — about the show getting cancelled, that is really what ultimately had BET even looking to pick it up. It was really dope. Everybody really loves the show and supports the show, so all I can say is keep watching.”
Of the possibility that some of the cast might not be returning, Sidora commented, “I can’t say that for sure, but you will probably see a lot of the characters back.”
As happy as that news is making longtime fans of the show, Sidora seems to be the only one who’s aware of it. BET and CBS Television aren’t making announcements about the deal and the stars of the show don’t seem to know anything about it.
On Friday, Mowry Twittered the reality of the situation, “A lot of people are asking about The Game again, and I have to say honestly I personally have not heard anything!” She followed that up with, “This has really been a roller coaster and I feel bad that I have no new news on the topic. :(”
It’s unclear where Sidora got her information but one would assume that the show’s star would be kept in the loop. If Mowry’s to be part of it, she’d have to agree to a new contract and that would presumably include a pay cut.
In addition, series creator Akil is still working on ABC’s Cougar Town. That show was just given a full season order so she’s going to be busy.
So, once again, there doesn’t seem to be any deal to bring back The Game. It may still happen but signs indicate it’s not happening yet.

BET and TV One are not right period. First of all if BET would stop putting all the stupid reality shows on then maybe they could afford to pay for something that the fans really would enjoy watching. It is a waste of time even blogging, chatting or talking about. This world does what it wants to and nine times out of ten its always the wrong thing.
look this is sum ******** on the real there has been no the game for like a year or 2 now i dont understand these damn rumors their coming back then their not which one is it get to the damn channel already get some new episdoes!!!
i have followed this show since day one on the cw. it is awesome and i even enjoy watching the re-runs but it would be nice actually great if this show returned for a 4th season especially since the way it ended there is definitely more to the stories of these characters. please bring the game back
I want this show back on NOW! I’m from Ireland and I love it. Get it back on for at least another 2 seasons.
I really wish they would quit playing these games and bring the show back. The show had very realistic storylines, and it was actually good! It touched home in so many ways. My friends and I had “The Game” night where we would get together and order food. I understand due to contracts and what nots, they may not be able to mention it. But it has been long over due.
WHEN THE SHOW WAS ON CW, I NEVER WATCH IT BUT SINCE IT HAS BEEN ON BET I HAVE SEEN EVERY SHOW MANY MANY TIMES. I THINK IT WILL BE A GOOD MOVE FOR BET 2 PICK IT UP BUT ONLY IF EVERYONE COMES BACK. IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME IF THEY DONT HAVE THE SAME CHARACTERS COME BACK.AND I HOPE SOON CAUSE BEFORE LONG PEOPLE ARE GOIN 2 GET TIRED OF LOOKIN AT RERUNS.
I’m so sick of the rumors…..BRING BACK THE GAME ALREADY!! I LOVE this show, me and all my girls, my hubby and his boys even watch it. It’s one of the few shows we can all enjoy together with one another! :o(

The game is worth waiting for. They left us on the cliff and we need to know what happens to these people. I love each actor and actress and they do an outstanding job with the writing. Please bring back our show we do not ask for much and honestly with all of the repeat movies they show on BET we can use a good sitcom.
The Game is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time.As a dedicated fan, In my opinion the best decision would be is to bring this show back! I don’t understand why such an amazing show would be cut just like that? Its truly upsetting and overwhelming to think we may never see this show back on the air the way it was.
