As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

I am so dissappointed that the Gates will not be coming back this season. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t sure about watching the show when it first started ( vampires and all?) but I found myself totally engrossed in it. When it ended, my granddaughter and I watched all the shows all over again. (I DVR’d it) anticipating the return this year. I/we are very sad that it will not be returning. Any chance they will reconsider? One can only hope. It is far better than these reality shows they put on the air which are pure garbage.
Bring it back. But on cable. So it can really be some competition to True Blood. Can’t do anything “really” creative or cutting edge on Network TV anyway — Network TV is too *safe*, and yes, vapid, for where this show needs room to grow some *real* fangs.
All in all, Network limitations and all, I really liked this show,… and looked forward to it’s *potential*.
Just finished season 1 (yes i heard about it late here in Argentina)… and **** ABC for cancelling the show!! I agree with other comments… this is way better than finding out why the kardashians have fought with their bf again… or how “famous” stupid familly’s live such a haaard life not knowing if they’ll get a new dog or a new car… SO DISAPOITIIINGGG
The Gates was very well done. The acting was excellent and the story line was great. I am also really sorry to see it end. The buildup to the final was well done also. I wish The Gates could be brought back, even on a cable station..i’d pay for the station to watch it.
I’m going to stop watching anything on ABC. Why put forth the effort to create such a great series and then just stop. Commit to finish the story line. Don’t get us interested and then just drop it. I loved the Gates.
Unbelievable! I just caught up with “The Gates” on Netflix and couldn’t get enough. Absolutely fabulous show and now to hear that it got cancelled!!!! ABC is really making me sick. They cancel shows with no regards to their viewers. I was furious when they cancelled “Happy Town”, but now I hate ABC for cancelling “The Gates”.
My brother and myself are very disappointed! We loved the show and we were looking forward for Season 2. Please reconsider and bring back The Gates …it was just getting started for goodness sake. There is still so much to do with the show!
I’m sorry The Gates was cancelled too!! Big disapointment!!! Loved that show.
I loved it too! This show was AMAZING! Ended too soon!
yess bring back the gates!!!
Maaaan, this show was so cool. I was really looking forward to finding out what happens. What a disapointment that it was cancelled. Great story line, great characters, what was every one watching last summer that it got low ratings???
Ypu really should bring this back. It was a really good show and I want to find out whats going to happen!!!
bring back “The Gates” ……. 🙁
we wanna know what happens…..this sucks….BRING IT BACK!!! </3
I just finished #13 on Netflix. I am annoyed that production stopped on this show; it was well acted and had just as fine a story line if not better than “Lost” and a great cast and production.
Everyone who has expressed their disappointment: Get season 2 on cable. Write Starz, they seem to be introducing more series lately.
Cutting off this show from primetime tv and replacing it with their vapid crap has much integrity as a Kardashian giving a producer a bj.
Write the cable channel – let’s get this show back on.
Very annoying. I just watched the entire season on Netflix and find that Hollywood has yet again disappointed the public by cutting off another show in deference to the vapid crap that has about as much integrity as a Kardashian giving a producer a blOOjob.
