As expected, ABC has cancelled The Gates after one season on the air. The ratings certainly didn’t dictate a second season and a couple weeks ago, series star Frank Grillo said that he’d heard unofficially that the show wouldn’t be back.
Though even actress Lindsay Lohan wanted to see it return, it’s now been confirmed that The Gates has indeed been cancelled. Some of the people connected with the show have tweeted about the series’ passing.
From the show’s Twitter feed comes, “We would like to thank our followers for sticking with us through this great journey.”
Gates creator Richard Hatem wrote simply, “Thanks to everyone who loved it. DVD set to be released…someday?”
Consulting producer and writer Robert Hewitt Wolfe tweeted, “Thank you to #TheGates fans, crew & cast for a great run. It was a blast. Seriously some of the best fans ever.” He later posted, “4 sale, lux devlpmnt/incrprtd town w/ upscale owners, prvt police/fire, exclnt school, occasional mysterious death”
Colton L Haynes wrote, “Was a great/fun experience and thk u all for coming along for the ride!. He followed that up with, “THE GATES cast and crew: thk u all for the good times! Learned alot and had a great summer with u all! Cheers to the future!” and posted this photo with #ripBrettCreski. Wolfe responded, “Sob… Too young!”
James Preston looks forward to the future, tweeting, “No worries gates fans follow us on to our new exciting roles!” Travis Caldwell echoed that sentiment, saying, “its all good more to come from all of us !!!”
Justin Miles wrote, “We gave em a hell of a run, though…” Janina Gavankar feels similarly, saying, “Sad. But we’re incredibly proud of what we made.”
Young McKaley Miller tweeted, “thank you guys for all the support!! seriously, y’all are awesome!! #TheGates is officially over, but it was such a great experience!! TY :)”
Andrea Powell wrote, “Thanks for all the love, fans of #TheGates. We’ll miss you! :-*”
Rachel Dipillo wrote, “We had a fun ride on The Gates. Love everyone I worked with and can’t wait to see what you do next! #RIPLEXIEWADE”
Grillo tweeted, “Thanks to all of you for supporting us. It made the whole thing worth it. Lots more fun stuff coming.” Grillo also said that he’d share what would have happened in the second season. After son Charlie is saved, Nick and his family would have stayed in the Gates community. The Radcliffs decide to take a break from one another. Leigh becomes the head of the police and Nick takes over the Gates board and oversees the community.
What do you think? Are you sorry that The Gates won’t be back for season two? What would you have liked to see happen?

I am TERRIBLY disappointed that this show wont be returning!! I thought it drug out the mysteries of everyones supernatural abilites well. I want to know whats to become of Lee aka Isabelle!?? Where did Andie go!?? And WTH did Devlyn turn Charlie into!??! Zombie? Superhero? Her personal protector!?? I think this show still had much to deliver. Too bad it was cut off too soon.
I loved it… acting was awesome and the story line was insane… just loved it… I wanted to see what Charlie had become…. OMG…. this was an amazing series.. I don’t think it was advertised enough.. I had never heard of it until looking through netflix… i watched the whole series in 4 days.. i could not stop watching it…
I agree with you! I don’t remember ever seeing the advertisement for this show. Saw it on Netflix and finished watching in 2 days! They need somehow bring this back. They need to end it properly not fair……
i just finished watching the show on netflixs never heard of it before and really like it. i am dissapponted that it will not be back
Just watched the show on Netflix, Why wouldnt SyFy pick this show up they have worse on their network if any thing I want closure in some sort of median please there is so much that can be done in this universe. CLOSURE PLEASE
I was just reading the other posts & TOALLY agree. Sad to c it go 🙁
I ran across the show by accident while it was airing last season. Was looking forward to season 2! But then again I loved “Eastwick” too!!!!!!! They weren’t publicized hardly at all!!! Give us a chance :((
Very disappointed that this show was cancelled. I, too, just watched it all on Netflix and became hooked. The way it ended left much to be anticipated in the next season, too bad there won’t be a next season. Come on ABC, bring it back!!! Or let another channel pick it up!!!
Exactly never heard of it watched whole season in a day amazing show. This seems to happen a lot. Makes me not want to watch anymore tv shows on Netflix because I’ll just find another amazing unheard of one and it will be canceled
Ditto all of the above comments. Like many of you, watching it on Netflix and really enjoying the shows. Finally decided to look it up and was quite disappointed to find out that there never will be a season two. I’m a big fan of “True Blood” and while I still favor that show “The Gates” wasn’t far behind.
Just finished the season 1 on Netflix. My husband and I were excited to find a new show only to find out that it was cancelled. I got my sister hooked before I found out about cancellation. We are all extremely bummed.
Can not believe the show is canceled!!
I agree they should have done more to get the word out about the show, i just found this on netflix and loved it. I’m very dissapointed that it wont be returning for another season.
I am soo sad that The Gates won’t be back. I was looking forward to this summer of new shows… I wish all the actors luck for the future. I will so miss the GATES…
I am terribly disappointed this show won’t be back. I looked forward to watching it every week and waited every week in anticipation for the next episode. Really bummed as I have been waiting and waiting for the next season to come out. Not very happy about this decision at all.
I agree with Jessica. Am in the middle of the season on Netflix and really enjoying it. Had never even heard of the show before. Looked it up online and found this post. It’s a shame that networks are so quick to cancel everything now days… You almost don’t want to watch any new shows because they may not even be on the air next week! That’s why I pretty much only watch Netflix anymore. (catch-22? lol)
Maybe to ratings were so bad because it was poorly publicised. I just finished watching it on netflix and loved the show. It has a little bit of everything. Im dissapointed that there wont be a season 2. Maybe somebody should rethink that decision.
I agree….we loved it! Great replacement while Vampire Diaries is on hiatus.
