As expected A&E has cancelled The Glades after four seasons on the air. There won’t be a fifth season or wedding for Jim (Matt Passmore) and Callie (Kiele Sanchez).
The dramedy began in July 2010 and it became their first scripted series to last more than a season. The cancellation comes days after The Glades’ fourth season finale attracted 3.41 million viewers. This was the show’s most-watched episode since the series premiere which drew 3.55 million.
Unfortunately, the fourth season as a whole was down by 14% year-to-year and The Glades was the cable channel’s lowest-rated scripted series. It didn’t help that the show was also produced by Fox, an outside studio, so A&E didn’t have a financial stake in the show’s future.
Of course, the real losers are the fans. The fourth season ended on a cliffhanger with Jim being shot in the chest by an unknown assailant. Hopefully the producers will find a way to give faithful viewers an idea of what might have happened in season five.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that The Glades has been cancelled? How would you have resolved the cliffhanger? Should Jim and Callie be together?
I am extremely disappointed. It was one of my favorite shows. If they wanted to cancel it they should have given us an edit not a cliffhanger. I pray there may be a chance that another station will pick this up and run with it.
I am furious that The Glades was cancelled, especially to add insult to injury and leave the story line as a cliffhanger, I have not watched A&E or Fox stations since. These stations showed a blatant neglect to their viewers. Just a simple camera shot of the person who shot Jim at the end of the last episode might have appeased many of us who were loyal fans of the show, but we were robbed of even that. I was also a fan of Longmire but no longer watch A&E as the same fate awaits that show should ratings taper… Read more »
I am so disappointed in A&E and the writers/producers of The Glades. I am so sick of all these shows ending on great cliffhangers and then leaving the fans/viewers hanging. This happens because of the channels deciding they are over a show. Just because they are done does not mean the fans are done. This is a great show. You can do 3 or 4 or 5 seasons and have an ending. TV watchers like conclusions, not cliffhangers that never get resolved.
I hate that you cancelled The Glades. It really does not surprise me, though. You have become a very cocky tv station. You cancel a very good show like The Glades and also punish The Robertsons for something that was said in a magazine. I wish stations like you, who do not care what the viewer wants, would fail and never be able to disappoint viewers again.
We are very upset by the fact that the Glades won’t be on anymore!!!! I am an avid fan, and my husband was just really getting into the show. If I couldn’t watch I always recorded it. I also liked the time slot; just before Longmier I really would like to at the very least have a short season to resolve the questions left up in the air! Is Jim going to live, who did it and will Jim and Callie get married? Again we both think this as my husband said IT SUCKS!!!!
There are so few shows on that show young people to be on the police force it was an unspeakable crime to end the show in the maner in which it was ended I can’t stop thinking about it some thing should change in your thinking.
A&E SUCKS. THEY KEPT BOUNCING THE GLADES AROUND SO I COULD NEVER FIND A TIME SLOT. SINCE FOX PRODUCED IT MAYBE FOX WILL AIR IT AND A&E CAN JUST DO COMERCIALS. A&E IS THE ABSOULTE WORSE TV STATION. I WOULD RATHER WATCH A TEST PATTERN.
I am very upset. I have watched this show from the get-go. Why is it that every show I love get’s cancelled. Good Lord I really wanted to see what was going to happen with Jim. Lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvved that man.
LOL Actually Kim, I didn’t feel quite the same about him, but sure am done with A & E for the way they left us hanging.
Very disappointed in A&E for cancelling such a great show, especially when they had their highest rated season. Apparently you have no concern for the fans or you wouldn’t have ended on a cliffhanger such as you did and cancel the show outright with no resolution. You’ve just lost an A&E fan. Won’t be watching any more. At least do a movie to finish off the cliffhanger!!! Don’t know what you people are thinking of!!! Very disappointed.
I am very disappointed To hear that one of my favorite shows has been canceled that just goes to show that’s why a&e cannot stay on the top of one of the best channels to watch…
Yeah, unfortunately, in this day and age, you’re gonna have scripted TV shows cancelled because they are produced by outside studios, so the network can’t have any financial stake in their future. It is unfortunate that a show that helped a cable channel establish its scripted brand had to end its original run with a cliffhanger. If it wasn’t for the fact that it was produced by an outside studio, “The Glades” would have easily been renewed for season 5. If I had my way, I would have had the fifth season be the last or I would do a… Read more »
Although I totally agree with you, once A&E cancelled the series a series finale was no longer possible. The actors, writers, etc. no longer had contracts and were free to pursue other projects. A wrap-up episode would now be impractical and expensive. A&E clearly isn’t interested in satisfying fans of the series or they wouldn’t have cancelled it on a cliff-hanger in the first place. I do wish one of the writers would do an online blog or something giving us fans some closure.
So sad to see a good show go away. Jim & Callie were a great couple, the Medical Examiner was way cool and there was still a story line to follow with no “bleeps” and very little steamy sex. That is obviously the reason for the cancellation – the show was too “healthy” for today’s society. Bad society, bad, bad society. Good show.
I Think if this was running on a real TV network the viewership would be much greater.. A&E seems to more of rerun factory… No talent for running first run shows… It would be nice is Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, USANetworks could pick this up.. I found it entertaining….
How can this be less entertaining than the Bachelor, or Survivor, or the other foolish reality shows.. Which are plain stupid…. And non of the people are even in touch with reality….
Said my piece…. I miss the show, I enjoyed it… A&E… step up!
I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT THE GLADES SERIES WASN’T PICKED UP FOR ANOTHER SEASON. I WAS READY TO SEE A WEDDING , A NEW LIFE STARTED BETWEEN CALLIE AND JIM AND JEFF. THERE IS ALSO THE FACT THAT RAY WAS MISSING FROM PROTECTIVE CUSTODY. THE LOYAL FANS OF THE SHOW ARE WAITING VERY VERY PATIENTLY FOR A NEW SEASON TO START SO WE CAN SEE WHAT HAPPENS. I THINK WITH THE CAST YOU HAVE ON THIS SHOW , IT GIVES THE VIEWERS COMEDY, DRAMA , ROMANCE, AND ACTION …. EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN A REALLY GOOD SHOW. PLEASE RECONSIDER AND… Read more »
I think the problem lies in the fact A & E doesn’t really give a damn about their viewers Amy. Or in my case at least, a former viewer. Was a good series wasn’t it. Almost impossible to believe a network would leave fans in the lurch as they did. Not nice A & E !
I think a bad decision was made to cancel the show. I does a loyal following, so please return the series, “The Glades”.
