As expected A&E has cancelled The Glades after four seasons on the air. There won’t be a fifth season or wedding for Jim (Matt Passmore) and Callie (Kiele Sanchez).
The dramedy began in July 2010 and it became their first scripted series to last more than a season. The cancellation comes days after The Glades’ fourth season finale attracted 3.41 million viewers. This was the show’s most-watched episode since the series premiere which drew 3.55 million.
Unfortunately, the fourth season as a whole was down by 14% year-to-year and The Glades was the cable channel’s lowest-rated scripted series. It didn’t help that the show was also produced by Fox, an outside studio, so A&E didn’t have a financial stake in the show’s future.
Of course, the real losers are the fans. The fourth season ended on a cliffhanger with Jim being shot in the chest by an unknown assailant. Hopefully the producers will find a way to give faithful viewers an idea of what might have happened in season five.
What do you think? Are you sorry to hear that The Glades has been cancelled? How would you have resolved the cliffhanger? Should Jim and Callie be together?
This is one the best shows on TV, The finder was killed even before Michael C. Duncan passed away but it was another excellent show. Its too bad money is the prime mover for good shows and the bad ones continue.
I’m soooo disappointed it’s not being renewed, it didn’t help that they moved the show around. It was such an intelligently written and well acted show, I don’t get it?
Omg. That is such crap. My husband and I watch that show everynight it is on. Who can they leaveus hanging like that. A&E never gave any indication that the show was ending or that It was a. Having issues. The need to keep it going. Cause now I have to find something else to watch on Monday nights. Why when a good show gets started and we get really into them they have to cancel it.not fair at all
OMG! this is insane how can you cancel such a great show. I am so tired of reality shows, cooking shows and crime shows it was refreshing to watch a show that had it all. Please reconsider bring it back we need to find out what happens to Jim ( he can’t be dead)!
Sorry to hear about The Glades being cancelled. That, and Longmire were the only shows
I watch on A&E. Too bad it wasn’t on TNT or USA channel & more people probably would have watched. Hate those reality shows as most of them are phony & stupid.
There aren’t many Good shows on anymore. The Glades was one that had a lot going for it. It ran the gambit of emotions and by the end of the 49 minutes of actual show, the viewer was feeling good. Here’s the thing, A&E along with the rest of the “Networks” aren’t in the Fan business, they’re in the MONEY making business. The better the ratings are for a show equals one thing only and that’s ADVERTISING which relates to MONEY!! The fans of The Glades have only one hope for the show to return and that’s that another Network… Read more »
the only thing I will watch on a&e will be Longmire and not even that. this is just plain stupid. why don’t you take some of those stupid shows where they bid on stuff off.
Yes, they DO keep too many crap shows. And The Glades wasn’t one of them. The Glades had that really awesome cliffhanger ending – AMC should do itself a favor and give us an ending we can live with. I am going to tell everybody NOT to watch it when it is syndicated – the rest of you should, too! This was a dumb-headed thing to do to AMC fans!!!!! VERY not cool…
NOooooooo!!!!! I love that show it was so good. Come on, there are so many crap shows on this wasn’t one of them
I recorded The Glades because I wanted to see the wedding and finally marriage for Jim and Callie and YES I want to see a conclusion of some sort for all of the characters in this series. I loved the humor, the sensibilities, and the great cast who were all very adept in their roles to the point that I cared about what happened to each and every one of them (except Ray – who was easy not to lie). Please bring this series back or at least a resolution to the cliffhanger.
Leaving a show with a cliffhanger like this is really bad for A&E. If they want to grow and be taken seriously then why not figure out what was wrong with the show and make changes. I don’t think they even tried changing the time slot. At least give us a special episode to end the story line!!
Think that is a very good point French. It was bad for A & E, and for the reason you stated. They apparently just do not have the expertise or capability to analyze their market and adapt to any changes that might be necessary. Although they themselves did not produce the series, it was a part of their programming and it demonstrates a certain lack of professionalism on their part. And, like you, I don’t think any changes needed to be made either. So, nothing left to do except to drop the network completely from our viewing choices.
I really enjoyed the show. Yes, I want the show back. We want Jim to live and them to get married.
Mary B. – so did a lot of people. The thing is, A & E doesn’t give a hoot. Opiniongirl said it very well, “Not cool!!!!”
You take off one of the few shows worth watching and put on crap like more cooking shows or idiots on an island somewhere. GOOD GOING!!! Idiots!!
I am so sad. I hope another network pick up The Glades.
What a great show, why do network do this to the fans.
Was so looking forward to season five of “The Glades”. A&E you must be out your minds to cancel this show. I was steadily looking for the announcement of the date the show was coming back on. A&E you left me and other Glades fans cliff-hanging. Not cool!!!!
