It looks like season four is the last that we’ll see of The Last Man on Earth. This week, FOX cancelled the low-rated Sunday night comedy so there won’t be a fifth season.
A FOX post-apocalyptic comedy, The Last Man on Earth stars Will Forte, Kristen Schaal, January Jones, Mel Rodriguez, Mary Steenburgen, and Cleopatra Coleman. After a deadly virus devastates the planet, Phil Tandy Miller (Forte) believes he’s the last human alive. Eventually, he finds other survivors and alternates between misery and elation. In season four, to avoid nuclear fallout, the survivors set sail for Mexico, even though none of them know how to pilot the boat. They also have to squeeze in two new passengers, Pamela (Kristen Wiig) and her dog, Jeremy.
The Last Man on Earth: A Look at the Ratings
The Last Man on Earth has managed low-to-middling ratings for the past few seasons and this season saw some new lows. Season four averaged a 0.79 rating in the 18-49 demo and 1.95 million viewers.
For comparison, season three averaged a 0.89 rating in the 18-49 demo and 2.12 million viewers. The series could have easily been cancelled a few times over the years due to low ratings. It appears that this time, the numbers just sank too low for FOX. The defacto series finale aired on May 6th.
Jones broke the news on Instagram and thanked the cast and crew and fans for their support.
Creator/star Forte is out of the country but thanked fans in this (hopeful) post from four days ago.
What do you think? Are you a fan of The Last Man on Earth? Would you have watched season five of this FOX comedy?
Sad and upset at hearing this is the end of the end! Say it isn’t so. One of the greatest and unique concepts for a show I have seen. It kept me always wanting more and a show I could binge watch always looking forward to the next episode. I have recommended TLMOE to so many of my friends and peers and they have all loved and enjoyed it as much as I have. We all want more, 67 episodes isn’t enough! Fair enough what was said in the series finale was accurate that ‘wherever they go there will be… Read more »
I looked forward for Sundays to watch this show. This show has been cancelled yet Last Man Standing has been renewed? What a shame!
I loved this series, about some people who try to live alone on the earth, and now when they found a lot of new peoples fox decide to stop this series,in fact if we think, they decide to stop a lot of people having fun with they’re families, and maybe someone should start a petition to make fox change they’re minds,so I hope someone will do it,because fox took the wrong decision this time, and if they stop Gotham or something like that I will not stay to see and cry because Gotham is a good serial too!!!!!
No!! Please give the series at least a closure episode!
You know, I want to like this show, I watch it, but it’s just so stupid. I can’t believe it lasted four seasons.
Why not give the show a proper ending, never going to see another serie by Fox.
The Mick, Last Man On Earth, Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Fox keeps doing this to us. We didn’t even get to see the finales because Northwest Broadcasting took fox away from us (all about money) And if the Pacific Northwest couldn’t watch Fox for the past several months of course the ratings went down!
I am devastated to hear that the show is over. My husband called to tell me and I thought he was playing a mean joke until I Googled it… Why Fox??!? It was such an amazing show. This is like my Name is Earl all over again.
Super disappointed. I don’t watch alot of television, but I loved this show. I hate that we were left with a cliffhanger and will not see how it played out. Not cool FOX!
This show was so funny. I loved watching it. I
I have enjoyed every episode of this show and was looking forward to the next season and what this amazing cast would throw at us. I wish that FOX would at least give them several more episodes to wrap up this story up. Why don’t they make these decisions before the end of a season to allow for this?
I agree at least maybe have a 2 hour movie to wrap up everything instead of leaving everyone with a cliffhanger.
Boooooooooooo!!!!!
Yes we were into the show
And it ended with a total cliffhanger, what a bummer!
I positively loved this quirky and just plain funny take on the apocalypse. I will miss it very very much!!The cast made it very endearing.
