Debra Messing had a long and successful run on NBC on Will & Grace while later series Smash was cancelled after two seasons. How do things look for The Mysteries of Laura? Will it see a second season?
The Mysteries of Laura revolves around a brilliant-but-harried NYPD homicide detective (Messing) who must also juggle her home life, including raising her young twin boys and trying to divorce her husband. The rest of the cast includes Josh Lucas, Laz Alonso, Janina Gavankar, Max Jenkins, Vincent Reina, and Charlie Reina.
The series debuted in September to a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 10.19 million viewers. It was an okay start for a new drama on NBC. The demo dropped 25% in week two while viewership dropped only slightly.
Unfortunately, the ratings have continued to drop over the course of the season. Mysteries of Laura recently hit a new series low with a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and just 5.82 million viewers.
The show’s ratings are poor and it could easily be cancelled. However, NBC is still having only mixed success with their overall schedule. Depending on their current crop of show pilots, their schedule problems could be enough of a reason for the network execs to renew Laura for a second season.
We’ll likely have to wait until May (when the networks announce their 2015-16 schedules) to find out if Debra Messing will be back on NBC next fall.
But, what do you think? Do you like The Mysteries of Laura? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Love this show. When I read over the other comments, I’m thinking that there is a segment or age group that demand edgy, complicated, action-packed shows and then there are those of us who prefer light entertainment? And, I wish the powers that be would consider all segments of the viewing public. I like that the show is light-hearted, funny, and easy to watch. I’m not offended by any aspects of the show. It’s exactly the type of show that I always love that always gets kicked off!
Good show. Better than so called reality any day. No butter, no cleavage, and no nudity, (for once).
Love the show. It should definitely be renewed.
I like the show. I hope they pick it up again.
Awesome show! Keep it!
Don’t cancel. Show more of the family life, kids! That makes it more unique than the other detective shows. Alicia and the twins good combo. Bring her back! Twins are adorable.
PLEASE keep! The show is light and fun (without being stupid, after the poor pilot episode), which is rare in hour-long shows these days (it seems like everything needs to be “edgy” and “dark” nowadays), and it’s a great show to watch on a day where I’m feeling anxious or stressed.
Love this show don’t get rid of it. Lots of real life plots with parenting.
Bad move if you get rid of it
Martha
I love this show! Please don’t replace this with another stupid reality show or fantasy show.
The most fun watching a weekly crime show, Laura is a must see. RENEW
I really don’t see the show having much of a future If they do renew it I don’t see it getting pass a second season I enjoyed it for awhile But now it is getting so cheesy and I am getting bored with it The actors deserve better
It’s a comedy its supposed to be a bit cheesy. I like it. I liked Bad Judge but they axed that already. In my opinion NBC has had trouble rebounding when they screwed up and cancelled so many of our favorite shows to put Jay Leno on 5 nights a week primetime.
Ahhhhh……WHAT ?!
Don’t try it N.B. C. K u got rid of Parenthood u still haven’t said anything about Taxi Brooklyn now Debra M. Show The M. Of Laura don’t play or u’ll definitely will be getting boycott understanding stop talking of good shows 4 these dumass shows like the slap and reality shows or getting rid of good guys like Bryan William bad mistake bad mistake get it 2gether listen to the viewers.
Boring, poor writing, poor acting on everyone’s part…networks get rid of good shows and keep this, just wrong and besides the spoiled, unruly children are a disgusting example of equally awful parenting.
LUV this show!! Don’t CXL it!! Seriously, well written, great actors!! Luv this story line! Its definitely a keeper!!
