A midseason replacement series, The Real O’Neals drew pretty low ratings in its first season on ABC. The network still renewed it for a second round. Will the numbers improve or fall in season two? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
A single-camera comedy series, The Real O’Neals revolves around an Irish Catholic family that seems to be living an idyllic life. Their lives are turned upside down when the middle son comes out of the closet and the rest of the family members come clean with their own secrets. They then start to live their lives more authentically. The show stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, Bebe Wood, and Mary Hollis Inboden.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/16 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Last year comparison: The first season of The Real O’Neals averaged a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.94 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Real O’Neals TV series on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?

LOVE this show! Please renew! There is no other show like it!
There is no other show like it. Thank God.
Renew! Love the show
Love the Real ONeals. It’s not the same old family sitcom. Please bring this back in the fall. Noahs comedy delivery is hilarious
Please let this show get renewed and bring Brett back
Love love love this show…..please renew
I love this show! Great characters, writing, and acting. It’s my favorite and it’s so funny! Don’t cancel it please!
I really want to like this show. My family and I enjoyed the first season but got bored towards the end. The humor we enjoy is just not there…in fact this whole season is still on our DVR waiting for us to watch but nobody is ever in the mood. If they cancel or don’t doesn’t matter cause either way we probably won’t care. We don’t watch it to be polite because it features a gay skn..we watch to be entertained and this show is not delivering. Schitts Creek is funnier and that features a pansexual. If you watch just… Read more »
Don’t cancel show please! I’ve become fan of Real o’neals since the first season, It may have the slight bland but the fact that the story makes it one of a kind. Just keep going !
The stereotypical depictions of Catholics and Catholic life is offensive and hate filled. That it claims some sort of fairness credit because it features a gay character doesn’t exonerate them from the religious intolerance and hate. It’s not even funny.
Cancel this show.
OH please. The Catholic Church itself has *official teachings* about LGBT people that are *abominably* hateful.
This is going to seem really stupid. But this show helped me come out of the closet. I agree with some of those that say that it is cliched, predictable and sometimes not realistic. But it made me hopeful for humankind. I have a similar family to the O’Neals and they obviously didn’t take me coming out as well as they did in the series, but it wasn’t too far from it. They accepted me when I came out. Which is something I was never really going to do until I got the glimmer of hope after watching the show.… Read more »
I totally agree! This show really is great, though a bit far fetched at times, but aren’t all TV shows supposed to be? It really is a unique TV show, as there really aren’t many (especially on such a main network) that deal with such an issue, especially with a younger main character. This show has even helped me accept who I am and it truly is awesome! Please renew it for a third season!
I love this show! I am gay and my mum loves me just the same after I came out. My step mother is from a crazy catholic polish family and still loves my mother who is a preussan protestan woman(and yes she is a lebian). I was born and raised in Berlin Germany which may be a bit more open minded than the USA but this is a show that actually depicts love. The love of a mother towards her kids. The struggle her kids go through towards adulthood and the love they have towards their mother. It is all… Read more »
Sometimes, a show is more important than just ratings. You can see from some of the bigoted comments below how important a show can be to a culture. Think of the young gay kids watching this show and seeing a gay character experience normal developmental high school experiences. This show can save lives. I know that sounds dramatic, but it is true for me. If you have no media to validate your story, you start to believe the cruel lies and ignorance of bigots. This show directly addresses homophobia and in turn, LGBT teen suicide (the highest risk group). I… Read more »
Cancel the show, so canned and unreal!

AMERICAN TV CAN CERTAINLY AFFORD TO HAVE ONE POSITIVE PROGRAM WITH A GAY LEADING CHARACTER. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. AS A GAY MAN, I HAVE WAITED MOST OF MY 85 YEARS TO HAVE A SHOW LIKE THIS TO LOOK FORWARD TO EACH WEEK.
