A midseason replacement series, The Real O’Neals drew pretty low ratings in its first season on ABC. The network still renewed it for a second round. Will the numbers improve or fall in season two? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
A single-camera comedy series, The Real O’Neals revolves around an Irish Catholic family that seems to be living an idyllic life. Their lives are turned upside down when the middle son comes out of the closet and the rest of the family members come clean with their own secrets. They then start to live their lives more authentically. The show stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, Bebe Wood, and Mary Hollis Inboden.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/16 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Last year comparison: The first season of The Real O’Neals averaged a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.94 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Real O’Neals TV series on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
5/11 update: ABC has cancelled The Real O’Neals after two seasons. Details here.
Cancel this show. Everything bad about television in one show.
PLease save this show it’s amazing and important to the LGBT youth
This is a great show. It is really entertaining and has been cast very well. It probably needs another time slot to give it a real chance to be appreciated.
The show that has taken The Real Oneal’s time slot, Imaginary Mary, is so much better. This is the keeper. Ditch the tired cliche.
I hope this show isn’t cancelled too. But I fear the worst.
please don’t cancel this show, i love this show, it has brought a lot of fun to my life.
Great show! Please don’t cancel! LGBT kids need this show
Love the show…correcting my typo! Ha!
I live the show! I didn’t know about it until the second season! And I think I missed a couple episodes 🙁 Its really the only television show besides Rizoli and Isles that I even turn the TV on for. Please continue for another season. Maybe some advertising would help. Most people that I talk to have never heard of it.
I love this show – it’s well written, well acted and shows the positive way that a family can support a child who is gay. My daughter is trans and it rings true as far as Kenny’s feelings go. Please keep it on.
Love this show!! I look forward to it every week. I really hope it comes back for a 3rd season.
I hope that the show is renewed. More people need to watch it and learn about
this family and there problems and how they handle them. Great writing.
I doubt they’re bringing it back, due to well-deserved low ratings. oh1 mocking Catholics! how original!
They’re not mocking Catholic families. They are showing what happens in a family with a gay child. Most Catholics look down on homosexuality. If you don’t like the show the next don’t watch it.
We don’t. As most people. It’s an insult to our intelligence.
Actually the show is doing quite well in presenting that Catholics have a good religion and are subject to change about homosexuality. It shows how one up tight catholic family can adapt to the changes in life like having a homosexual person in their family. It is not an insult more of a compliment to Catholics. Everyone has to consider that growing up as a homosexual is actually hard with society always judging them for their ways which they have no choice over.
Go LGBT community
Go Catholics
This is a very good show that deserves a larger following. It gives a unique perspective on contemporary social issues in a very entertaining way.
This show is amazing! This show brings so much joy and laughter to my week. But most importantly this show displays a more positive experience of coming out to one’s family, which is so desperately needed in our society. To the folks at ABC, keep this show on the air and keep showing that love can overcome any hurtle.
