A midseason replacement series, The Real O’Neals drew pretty low ratings in its first season on ABC. The network still renewed it for a second round. Will the numbers improve or fall in season two? Will it be cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
A single-camera comedy series, The Real O’Neals revolves around an Irish Catholic family that seems to be living an idyllic life. Their lives are turned upside down when the middle son comes out of the closet and the rest of the family members come clean with their own secrets. They then start to live their lives more authentically. The show stars Martha Plimpton, Jay R. Ferguson, Noah Galvin, Matt Shively, Bebe Wood, and Mary Hollis Inboden.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — typically around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
3/16 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Last year comparison: The first season of The Real O’Neals averaged a 1.12 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.94 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you still like The Real O’Neals TV series on ABC? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a third season?
5/11 update: ABC has cancelled The Real O’Neals after two seasons. Details here.
Wow. it looks like a lot of thoughtful comments criticizing the series’, or addressing its anti-Catholicsm, magically disappeared since least year. Not cool.
The show should stay on tv. It is so humourous. Maybe an episode where the main character has a bit of a sexual encounter with a boy of the same age.
As if the ratings weren’t low enough, viewers come up with ideas to make them lower
I did not watch the show it was not too funny !
Thank you, ABC for canceling this series. I’m sure you’re kicking yourself for not doing so a year ago. It was a ratings repellent.
Why is this show “every wrong with TV”? Explain please, or do you not want to say “Gay”
The viewers obviously like it. Real characters. I work with LGBT youth, and it’s a great show for them. Honest. Funny. Empathetic. Sweet.
I watch a lot of tv, and this show is a great quality production. The reason it doesn’t get high ratings is because people don’t know about it. The actors are all amazing and play their characters extremely well. The whole gay “song and dance” numbers that the lead teenage actor perform in this show are both extremely well done and hysterical. I literally laugh my a$$ ofwith every episode. Please don’t cancel this show. It brings so much pleasure to so many people and is really needed in times Ike’s these. I think it especially is important to all… Read more »
I JUST found out about this show because a person at my library randomly mentioned it to me. But like? I Love it! Already watched all of season 2 airing on hulu! I need to find season 1 though! and go back. Such a cute funny family show. TElling all my friends! They had never heard of it either. They need to advertise.
ABC advertised this heavily but stopped because the viewership was dwindling anyway
some networks will show anythng, but it doesn’t mean people will watch. Maybe the ratings numbers will be a wake up call to ABC
I am 65 years old. I love this show. Please bring it back!!! Great fun. Great characters.
Please keep the shoe on! I love the acting and the uniqueness of each character. It handles subjects in a different manner, not just the same predictable outcome. The way it covers being gay, divorce–but still amicable, being different and the great comedy is very very refreshing. KEEP THE SHOW!!!!!
