After months of speculation, FX has finally put rumors of The Riches’ cancellation to rest. The show is over.
The Riches debuted on March 12, 2007 on FX. The TV series follows a pair of Irish con artists and their children who assume the identities of a wealthy family who has died in a car crash. The show stars Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver in the roles of Wayne and Dahlia Malloy.
The series debuted to 3.8 million viewers and 1.9 rating/5 share in the desirable demographic. The numbers fell during the 13 episode season but FX still renewed it for a second year. The numbers fell significantly in season two and The Riches lost almost 50% of its 18-49 viewers.
For those that did watch, they only got to see a shortened season because of the writers strike. Only seven of the 13 planned episodes were produced and ended with storylines unresolved. It was hoped that the remaining six would be added to the order for season three but that won’t happen now.

Though the season two ratings didn’t warrant a renewal, FX was hesitant to cancel the series. Riches was a hit with critics and Driver received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Ultimately, as is usually the case, it came down to economics and resources. Things weren’t likely helped by the fact that neither Izzard or Driver were available to return to production any time soon. Izzard is booked for two movies and has a busy stand up schedule that keeps him touring. Driver recently gave birth to her first child.
After months of waiting, actor Todd Stashwick (Dahlia’s cousin Dale on the series) broke the cancellation news to fans on Thursday. The network made the official announcement a few days later.
In a perfect world, a final episode or movie would be filmed to wrap up the series’ cliffhanger. Based on the show’s ratings, that seems unlikely to happen. Stay tuned!
I’ve been waiting and anticipating the TV show to come back for almost a year. I believe your viewers deserve a closing end to the show instead of leaving us hang after 2 years of watching the Riches. Totally unfair and very unexpected. I will never watch your network again!
I am so mad!!! I loved this show!!!! FX SUCKS!!!!
It is AWFUL that a show such as THE RICHES was cancelled. How could they, FX just leave US hanging like that. THE RICHES needs a proper finally/funeral so that at least all our many questions get answered. There are so many issues that were left unresolved and you all just left US hanging. Please Resolve all the unanswered questions and issues with this show before you decide to Moth Ball and Bury it that is so unfair to the many viewers that watched this show faithfully for the last 2 years.
What are they thinking?..I guess some stupid cartoon will replace the show..The RICHES was a good show.
Maybe BEVIS and Butthead run FX now days!!!!
I am sooooo disappointed that The Riches will not have a season 3. I am so upset with FX. The Riches is one of the best, well-written dramas I have seen in a long time. The cast of the show is superb. I was immediately hooked with the first episode. Please, please bring back The Riches. I was looking forward to finding out all the complexities of these characters. All of them were so intriguing. I so enjoyed finding out how these characters handled the situations they found themselves in. I could hardly wait for the next episode and then… Read more »
i cant believe the show was cancelled, i understand that the writers strick was going on during the 2nd season, why cancel after a writers strike, they should have at least given the show enough time to build its veiwers back up after the strick was over. I loved this show, it was one show my husband and i enjoyed together, i also planned nothing on the night it was on. i do hope they bring it back and at least finish out the story line.
i am so upset about the no 3rd season. i think fx has messed up big time and has lost me as a viewer. maybe not alot of people watched but those who did got really into it and i cant believe that my favorite tv will no longer being coming out with new ones. i hope fx sees the damage it has caused to its station. how could fx just leave us viewers hanging like that…ha they arent much of a good tv station to disapoint so many.
lame. some one should try to convince the network to re open the show just to finish the story, sourt of like what they did with freaks and geeks
This is crazy! This was one of the few intellegent shows left on Tv. The writers are phenominal and the cast was perfect. You loved and hated characters and that is a mark of just good acting and directing. Ediie Izzard is one of thee biggest talents in our day and the chemestry with Minnie Driver was fun to watch.
Oh no!!!! This really stinks that they would cancel the show. I am so diappointed. I looked forwards to Tuesdays just to watch the show. The ending really left me wanting more. Maybe someone should write a book to finish the clifhanger ending….any writers out there.?
Please bring back my favorite show. The Riches is completely awesome. Do us the favor of at least resolving the storylines with the last 6 episodes.
I am unbelievably upset by this news. My wife and i are not usual TV watchers, but we fell in love this one show!
There is no other show that i would cancel my plans to watch. We were upset last year, cause of the short season but now, we have been hopefully waiting till march and WTF$#@#!
This really has me saddened . I have been a fan since show ONE . This just like other GOOD shows ,seems like if it is original it gets canceled .. Make Flava of love 325 that’s good for some ratings . Total BS . I now hate you FX
Please come back….please please please lol
Wow. How very disappointing. My wife and I accidently found this show and were hooked immediately. It was so twisted and so well acted, that it was nearly impossible to wait for the show each week. My wife and I are both engineers in our 40’s. We know probably 40 people who were hooked on this show too. I think the ratings were probably not accurate.
We’d pay to watch a season 3 or at least a final eposide.
