Fans of AMC’s The Son series have been waiting since the first season’s finale (which aired in June 2017) for the return of the Western drama. We’ve now learned that season two will begin airing on Saturday, April 27th, at 9 PM. There will be 10 episodes once again and, it turns out, those will also be the end of the show. There won’t be a third season.
Here’s the relevant portion of AMC’s press announcement about The Son:
The Son
Saturday, April 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT
Based on Philipp Meyer’s New York Times best-selling and Pulitzer Prize finalist novel of the same name, season two of The Son concludes the journey of the iconic “First Son of Texas.” Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) will stop at nothing to secure his legacy against the backdrop of the nascent oil industry of 1917. His tools are deceit, fraud and murder — weapons he wields with the effortless skill of the Comanche warrior he once was.But the biggest challenge he faces will be quelling a civil war under his own roof, triggered by his idealistic son Pete (Henry Garrett). Eli knows the ultimate prize of American dynasty is nearly in his grasp, and time is running out. Meanwhile, in 1851, young Eli (Jacob Lofland) is now married and a respected warrior among the Comanches, but tragedy forces him into a leadership position as the vast Comanche empire crumbles around him. Broadening the scope, a 1988 timeline is introduced, bringing the McCullough saga into the more immediate past. Here, at age 85, Eli’s granddaughter Jeanne Anne McCullough (Lois Smith) is confronted with a long-buried family secret.
The Son is produced by AMC Studios and Sonar Entertainment. Showrunner and writer Kevin Murphy, director Kevin Dowling, author Philipp Meyer, and Sonar Entertainment’s Tom Lesinski and Jenna Santoianni are Executive Producers. In addition to Brosnan, Smith, Garrett and Lofland, the series also stars Paola Núñez, Zahn McClarnon, Jess Weixler, David Wilson Barnes, Sydney Lucas, James Parks, Elizabeth Frances, Shane Graham and Kathryn Prescott.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to watching the second season of The Son TV show on AMC? Are you sorry that there won’t be a third season?
This was a good show why in the world would you cancel lit oh I forgot not enough ratings well that’s not good enough . Maybe you should try another night and or time and let it run for another season. Let people know that it’s moving.
Your so disappointing!
THIS WAS THE BEST SHOW! I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY IT STOPS AT SEASON 2. I AM VERY GLAD IT WAS WRAPPED UP NICELY, BUT I COULD WATCH 10 MORE SEASONS OF THIS!
Great show good acting great story. The book was entertaining and I was looking forward to season three. It’s a shame it has ended Mid story.
What is wrong with AMC they are canceling all the best shows, they did it to bad lands and now the son. If it isn’t about the walking dead they just don’t care. Walking dead isn’t even that good anymore it got stale. They have nothing left to offer after they killed Carl and did Rick in the show lost its magic. I don’t understand why they kill off amazing shows like this just to keep TWD around.
No season 3, I was devastated. that was a great series, great acting, well written.
Talk about ending a show and leaving you hanging, this was probably in my opinion the best, meaning the worst thing you could have done to us.
I do hope somebody will pick it up and continue it like David Milch did for Deadwood, 10 years later and with the same cast, that was incredible.
Maybe, just maybe they will do the same for THE SUN, but it would have to be with the same cast or I’m afraid it be a disaster.
Too bad. I had read the book several years ago and was excited to see the series, which has been surprisingly good and close to the book. My husband and I both binge-watched this week on HULU! BTW, Pierce Brosnan has never looked so handsome.
I’m very sad that the series is ending so abruptly. I have really gotten into the storyline and was looking forward to following Jeanne Anne’s story to 1988 and the ranch hand Ulysses’ introduction as a long lost McCullough
I think AMC sucks!!! Why did they even show the 1st one if they’re just gonna cancel it later??
If I had known it was not being renewed. I would of binged watching.Great western wonderful plots and twists and turns ,why is it anything good on TV gets canceled??
My husband and I loved it! Shocked that it’s being cancelled. WHY?!
Just started the series binged watched thought it was fantastic acting was great love the cast strong characters very disappointed there’s not a season three thought the series was excellent
So sorry this will not be continued. I just discovered this show and have been binge watching while I am sick. I hope someone picks it up and does a third season. Very well done. Excellent acting by all.
Why do you always cancel the good western shows
Why, Why, why, is there no loyalty to the fans??? Such a great show, fresh, well done! Could not be more unhappy to hear there will never be a season 3. I guess they will make more shows about zombies or some other high brow topics… so disappointing.. boo hiss for not making more seasons
This show is excellent and should not have been cancelled. Please, Amazon or Netflix or Hulu, pick it up! Or Apple+. Anybody! Make magic happen!
Absolutely! This was a fantastic show! I loved how there were so many layers to the story and how well they were able to pull it all off.
