Although AMC has renewed some popular scripted series for years, others have been cancelled after only one season. The Son is based on the Philipp Meyer novel of the same name. Does that mean this “limited event series” is just a mini-series by another name? Will The Son be cancelled or renewed for season two on AMC? Stay tuned.
The Son is a Texas period drama starring Pierce Brosnan, Henry Garrett, Sydney Lucas, Carlos Bardem, Jacob Lofland, Zahn McClarnon, Paola Núñez, David Wilson Barnes, Jess Weixler, and Elizabeth Frances. The AMC series, which is simulcast on SundanceTV, follows three generations of the McCullough family and features the metamorphosis of Eli McCullough (Brosnan). The family patriarch, Eli, changes over the years from an affable innocent into a conniving killer.
After losing everything on the wild frontier, Eli rebounds to build a lasting ranching and oil dynasty and, in time, grows exceedingly wealthy. In flashbacks, The Son also recounts the relationship between young Eli (Lofland) and Comanche war chief Toshaway (McClarnon), who served as his father figure. Throughout, The Son delves into the rise of the McCullough family empire.

What do you think? Do you like The Son TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
5/12/17 update: The Son TV show has been renewed for a second season. Details here.
This is not a bad series. It’s well-acted, with sympathetic characters. One of the main plot points is a bit far-fetched, though. The oil seep that was just a few yards beyond the McCullochs’ property line undoubtedly was part of a pool that extended under both properties. Eli could have just leased his land for a well that would have sucked the oil from under both properties. This was allowed in Texas up until 1949. The Garcias could have had their own well, too, and everybody would have been getting royalty money. If it happened today, geologists would try to… Read more »
The ratings for the last few weeks of this show were horrific, yet it was renewed. Let’s hope AMC shows the same respect to Fear The Walking Dead, Into The Badlands and The Walking Dead. AMC renewed HUMANS with a 0.14 after it did a 0.39 in season one. Amazing.
My husband and I love this show and please don’t cancel it.
My favorite. Kind of a early Dallas.
I Like the show. Do not cancel. I loved Hell on Wheels. Dont cancel this one.
slow, uninteresting characters, ponderous dialogue, camera broods over facial expressions, and the precious anorexic is supposed to grow up to be ruthless pierce brosnan? look at the ratings- down and down again
AMC renewed HUMANS with a 0.14 and now this with a 0.16 live ratings average. On the other hand, NBC Universal(who own USA and SYFY) renew shows with even worse live ratings. This has been happening for the last 3 years. I think it is nuts.
Love it..Please do not cancel
It is a great show I love it.
I think it is the best thing on TV!
Love it! Don’t cancel!
Love the show please don’t cancel
My husband, son and I are enjoying watching this show from the first episode. The hour goes by way too fast and every week we can’t wait for the next weekend to come along to see what’s next.
I love The Son. Don’t cancel this show.
Love this show! Easy to get into from the very start. I hope they renew it for more seasons. The story line is not fluff. There are two really good story lines going on. Probably the best acting I have seen from Pierce Brosnan.
Love this show please don’t cancel!
