After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
C’mon FOX…you have House, you have Bones, you have Idol and if you gave it a chance, you would have The Wedding Bells. Lord knows you’ve invested money in worse shows. This one has GREAT potential. Yes it’s kind of a “chick” show, but it’s GREAT. Please bring it back!!!
Thanks…
This show is sooo funny and light. I can’t believe Fox cancel it. I hope Fox doesn’t switch it to one of those lame reality TV show. You must be nuts!
Please bring it back.
I think Friday night slots is just a bad slot, that’s why the rating is a bit low.
Most of people are out on Friday night.
It is terrible that Wedding Bells was cancelled. It was truly a hilarious show and very touching. I totally agree the comments that have been made on how the networks only keep shows that have sex and violence. Hopefully the FOX network will get these messages and bring the show back.
I am very disappointed that Wedding Bells is off the air! It was very enjoyable. Are you able to determine how many people TIVO the episodes. I was never able to watch in its’ time slot but watched every episode at a different time. I generally don’t watch much TV but certainly enjoyed the story, relationships, humor, sometimes the TV planning boys are just not in touch with the real world. WE LIKED WEDDING BELLS!
I got my husband to watch Wedding Bells. He loved it’s tongue in cheek comedy. I looked forward to seeing some classy comedy for a change. There isn’t much good on the tube lately. Please put it back on. Maybe it’s the title that is scaring the male population from watching it. But it IS GOOD and IT IS FUNNY.
PLEASE put this show back on!!! I don’t have many favorites that I watch (thank goodness “HOUSE” is still on!!) but Wedding Bells was one show that I really did like and got worried when my DVR didn’t pick it up as scheduled. I join the hundreds of others that posted comments about this show…. WE WANT MORE !!!!
I loved this show, I had it set to dvr every episode…thanks alot
The Wedding Bells was a show to look forward to at the end of the work week before bedtime. Perhaps it will resurface although I doubt it.I truly enjoyed this quality show.
My wife, daughters, and I enjoyed watching this program. Blockbuster nights on Friday became wedding bell nights. Hopefully they will reconsider and bring it back.
FOX YOU SUCK!!! I am sooooo fed up with you guys at the corporate headquarters cancelling all of these shows!!!!! YOU ARE LIKE A REVOLVING DOOR! First off you never leave anything on the air long enough for it to get a true following! 4 weeks for the Wedding Bells!! I mean, COME ON!!!! AND THEN you MOVE them to the Friday night slot before it even had a chance to pick up steam!!! You know you dont move shows to FRIDAY nights until they have some ground under them to keep people following the show. You cant gain that… Read more »
I am so upset this show has been canceled. Why not move it to another night. I really thought it was a great show.
Why would they put something somewhere where Idol will steal from it and then put it on a Friday night?????????????????????????? Who comes up with these ideas? NO!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVEDLOVEDLOVED this show and now its gone. No way. Not fair!!!!!!! Please, please bring it back! And put it on in a spot that’s not SUICIDAL!
I am preety upset that hte show is canceled – But please post when the final episodes will air, I sure don’t want to miss them!!!
Also, please reconsider putting the show back on.
