After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
LOVED THE SHOW. PLEASE BRING IT BACK. I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO HERE IT WAS GONE.
seriously when is the love affair with silly reality shows going to end? the only decent shows on Fox are House and the The Wedding Bells. why is so hard for shows with excellant writing to last on this network? get rid of the extremely over-rated ’24’ instead
I can not believe that Wedding Bells was cancelled after only 4 weeks. My mother, my friends and I loved this show. It was well written, great cast, funny, etc. I am so tired of the fact that everything is catered to the young (18-30 yrs old. You moved the show to Friday and if the young people do not watch it then it is gone. I am 43 years old and I thought that Wedding Bells was one of the best tv shows on the air second to Boston Legal. What can we do to bring this show back… Read more »
What goes on during Fox executive meetings? why are the people not being heard here or at fox.com? it is obvious, the viewing public wants the bells back. Believe me, Bones is not going to keep me tuned into Fox. I can’t watch this channel anymore, every time I get hooked on a brilliant new show, and even get my friends to watch with me, it gets cancelled by Fox! White Chicks?! seriously! UGHHHHHH
BRING BACK THE WEDDING BELLS AND DON’T PUT IT ON FRIDAYS EITHER.
I can’t believe Fox would cancel The Wedding Bells. This was one of the few shows I looked forward to watching. Bad move Fox!!
I Loved the Wedding Bells, why don’t they give shows a chance before they just take them off of the air.
We need to write in to FOX and let them know we want quality shows.
this was my favorite show! I am not happy about this. My mom and I always called to talk about it after each episode. BAD MOVE FOX Now you have nothing worth watching!
Please…Someone at the networks pull some strings and get this show back on. There’s so few funny, quirky programs that leave you feeling good and this one did.
Maybe if enough of us respond they will bring back this great show. Finally, Friday nights had a chance. I love Ghost Whisperer, Wedding Bells, and Numbers…made a perfect Friday night for me and hubby.
WHAT ARE YOU THINKING FOX! MY DAUGHTER AND I REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING WEDDING BELLS. I HATE TO SAY THIS BUT YOUR MAKING IT WHERE PEOPLE DON’T WANT TO WATCH FOX. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYTIME I FIND A GOOD FAMILY T.V. SHOW YOU GUYS GO AND CANCEL IT. SO WHY SHOULD WE GO AND GET INTO ANOTHER SERIES? WEDDING BELLS ONLY RAN 6 EPOSIODES. I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU DIDN’T GIVE IT A CHANCE. THE LEAST YOU COULD OF DONE IS TRIED ANOTHER NIGHT AND LET THE SEASON FINISH OUT UNTIL YOU MADE THE CHOICE TO CANCEL IT.I’M CUROIUS IF YOU… Read more »
Me and my friends love this show!!! Is there any way to save it?
Kept looking for it thinking it had been moved…again. Loved the cast. The big mistake was moving it to Friday night. What was wrong with being after Idol? IT WAS GREAT>WON”T WATCH WHAT YOU REPLACED IT WITH!!!!!
my fiance and i loved the wedding bells it was so funning i also got my grandma to watch it and we would talk about it and die laughing i wish you would put it back on try a different day and time maybe that would help
thank you
i was so disappointed to find out that the only realistic show is cancelled. they didnt even give this a chance for at least 3-6 months maybe. i mean compared to the reality shows that sucks. I mean this is what really happens in every wedding. plus i love the singers they reallyh put up nice songs and great singers that comes great with the show.. its so sad really sad, i hope that the producers of this show would ask the other network to buy because this show reserved better network…
I truly feel that Fox made a huge mistake. My family loved this show. It was so funny. Even if we were not going to be home we recorded the show! I hope it comes back!
