After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
i’m extremely disappointed that this show was cancelled. great cast, good story line, extremely funny, wholesome and refreshing (but still very sexy). i’m not much of tv person, but this was a show that i actually looked forward to watching. FOX, please bring it back.
What??? No Wedding Bells??? We were starting to avoid going out on Friday nights so we could see it. It is very disappointing to see how little faith Fox had in it. I am starting to have little faith in Fox.
My husband and I really looked forward to watching the Wedding Bells every week. I am so disgusted with the powers that be who would cancel such a fun and interesting show. The two men who were the Wedding Singers were awesome. Please give it another chance, I already have it programed into my TV to come on automaticlly every week. Give decent TV viewing a chance.
I’m so disappointed!! This show was great! It’s been a long time since a series that’s fresh and funny has been on the air. The characters were just getting started…..
They did the same with “Related” about 4 Italian American sisters in NY. That was great too, and then just pulled out from under our noses.
What a loss…….
First The OC, now Wedding Bells? When are coorporations going to actually care about what people want to watch, instead of what teeny-boppers are voting for??
Does anyone at FOX pay attention to these comments??!! This show was creative and witty and MANY MANY people want it back on the air! It seems like it wasn’t even given a fair chance! My friends and I really enjoyed this show! Put it back on!!
Wedding Bells was the most interesting new show. Good writing, (something that sems to be very rare these days) great humour, great characters, and lots of potential for story lines and guest appearances.
Now we are left with more crap on TV. These worthless reality shows are sucking the last ounce of true creativity, talent, and thoutht process out of the tv medium.
FOX you SUCK.
We are saddened to see Wedding Bells gone. Four weeks and poof! Friday night is not a good time slot. Please reconsider. we do not watch White Chicks, nor will be consider it. Please bring it back.
i can’t belive this show didn’t make the cut of cource put it on fri night when 1/2 of america is out didn’t help i really wish fox would reconsider it was a great show
PLEASE BRING BACK THIS SHOW. THE ACTORS WERE EXCELLENT AND THE WRITING SUPERB! THANKS FOR RUINING MY FRIDAY NIGHTS.
I can’t believe The Wedding Bells is gone! I love the show. Guess it didn’t stand a chance since it’s not a reality show..it’s actually family entertainment. If Fox doesnt want the show please sell to another network (Style, E, TLC, BRAVO)
Please bring the show back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I finally gave up looking for the show in the tv schedule every week and went on line to see that it was cancelled.I am very disappointed and hope that another network will pick it up!
I was so disappointed to find out that FOX had cancelled The Wedding Belles. I finally googled the show to find out where it had been moved to, or when it was coming back, and found out this sad news. I can’t believe the network would cancel a show that was so well written, acted, and funny without giving it a real chance. I fell in love with the characters and am sure more people would too if the show had been given a better time slot. FOX, YOU DROPPED THE BALL on this one. Maybe some executive will read… Read more »
You didn’t give this show a chance. You should have put it on a different night before pulling the plug completely. I’m really disappointed that it’s off the air.
