After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
Hey Fox you didn’t the show a chance. It was just developing. You should reconsider.
Well I too am very dissappointed! We have wondered what happened, as we also at our home have enjoyed the show as well.
You undoubtedly lost viewers due to the fact that you changed locations. “NOT” to the lack in quality of the show.
Bad move folks!
Cheers to all the writers and cast members, you did great!!!!!!!
Is there a way to start a letter writing campaign for this show? I loved The Wedding Bells. I had set my DVR to record it on Friday nights (just in case I got home late). I thought the recorder wasn’t working when I couldn’t find it on my list. Now I know that it’s gone–please bring this funny, smart show back. And do it quickly before the talent is hired by someone else.
I loved this show.. I’m sure going to miss it! and it seems to me so did many many other people!! Please bring it back!!!
I HAVE READ ALL THESE REMARKS AND IT SEEMS EVERYONE IS TIRED OF CRIME AND REALITY SHOWS. FINALLY A SHOW THAT YOU DONT HAVE TO TURN AROUND TO SEE IF YOUR KIDS CAN SEE. PUT WEDDING BELLS BACK ON AND GIVE IT A CHANCE.
This was a great show that should be brought back. The only reason it didn’t get the ratings was because it was on a Friday. I watched every episode but I had to DVR them all. If you put it on Sun-Thurs you would have a hit.
FOX made a poor decision to cancel!!
Place the show in a better TV slot than 9pm Friday and the rating will be positive!
Very clever … laughed out loud all the time.
I am so disappointed that this show has been cancelled. Who’s bright idea was that? I really looked forward to this show on Friday nights. Back to CBS I guess.
It always seems like the best shows get cancelled. I am very disappointed, I finally found a show that I enjoyed watching every week, and now it is cut. It makes me sick that all the violent shows make it and the good clean shows don’t.
Wedding Bells was one of the best shows on TV. I too do not think it was given a fair chance. FOX should reconsider and bring this show back. Not everyone is interested in reality or crime shows. This was a nice, funny entertaining show. FOX you need to listen to the voices of the audiences!
I Loved Wedding Bells! Fox what is wrong with you. Everytime I start liking a show you take it off, so maybe I don’t need to watch anything on Fox anymore. You suck. Put wedding bells back on and maybe fox will go on my tv again.
I am so disappointed. My friends and I loved this show. Please bring it back. There is nothing else to watch on Friday nights.
I too am very disappointed to learn this show was cancelled. It really did remind me of the Ally McBeal formula of regulars and weekly guests. It was just as clever too. I dont think four episodes is enough to determine whether a show is going to be successful or not! Clearly many of those who watched came to love the show. But, when a show is on Friday night… come on… people have things to do, that contributes to lower ratings. I do not know most networks only give a new show its one timeslot! Why not have it… Read more »
Before, REUNION. Now, Wedding Bells! Should be continue watching shows from your network? you might left us hanging again. Better bring it back. You’re loosing audience.
I thought the Wedding Belles was a great show! I was getting into it and kept checking to see when it was coming back on and I am really disappointed to see it’s been canceled. It was nice to see a show that was light and funny, with no violence. It was a great show for women- i wish you would bring it back!
