After a four week run, FOX says the honeymoon is over for David E. Kelly’s The Wedding Bells series.
The Wedding Bells follows the Bell sisters, Annie (KaDee Strickland), Jane (Teri Polo) and Sammy Bell (Sarah Jones), who inherited “The Wedding Palace” following their parents’ divorce. The staff also includes Jane’s husband and company COO Russell Hawkins (Benjamin King), photographer David Conlon (Michael Landes), and wedding singer Ralph Snow (Chris Williams).
The series debuted on March 7th on FOX following American Idol. Over 12.4 million watched the initial episode. That sounds impressive until you realize that the comedy lost almost 16 million from Idol. Once Bells started in its new Friday night timeslot, viewership quickly fell even further. The most recent episode attracted only 4.5 million.
Production was shut down yesterday following the completion of the seventh episode. Four episodes have aired thus far and FOX maintains that the remaining three will see the light of day. The Wedding Bells remains on the schedule this week but was already scheduled to be pre-empted next week (for an airing of the movie White Chicks). It’s unlikely that the series will return.
A spokesperson for FOX said, “While we’ve been pleased with the show creatively, and David’s writing was first-rate, (Bells) just didn’t secure the ratings we’d hoped for.” Stay tuned!
I can’t believe “Wedding Bells” has been cancelled. I look forward to it every week. The writing was wonderful and the characters were a blast. If there is anyway they can be saved that would be GREAT!!!!!!!
Think fox has made a serious mistake by cxd The wedding Bells. The writing was good and the actors were believable//My wife and I are really bumed that this show has been cdx. Fox has a real winner with this show and they dropped it why?
Are you kidding?? I didn’t hear anything about this til tonight, when I turned on the tv to autotune to The Wedding Bells, only to see it was pushed because of White Chicks. This was such a good show, and one of the few things I actually sat down and relaxed for. This show made me laugh, and it was great to see as I am an aspiring wedding/event planner. FOX is CRAZY to take this off…but then again, I guess it shows what kind of world we’re really in when something with violence and sex rates over something light… Read more »
What made this show so special was the casting. I sought out this website when I couldn’t find the show. Friday was also a perfect night as, in my estimation, it was the only show worth watching.
Nice going Fox – what other bad decisions are in the making?
Fox makes me sick. I used to watch the O.C. and Reunion. Now, I finally was starting to watch The Wedding Bells. Advice—don’t get hooked on Fox shows, they’ll just cancel them every time after you begin to like them. FOX SUX!!!!
Ok, here’s a concept that could have worked: 3 wedding planners who solve crimes – while they’re planning weddings! They run a secret forensics lab in the basement of The Wedding Palace. One is a former “renegade” cop, one is a former ADA, and one is, I don’t know, a stripper/biochemist maybe? Geez, it could have worked! Since our culture is so crime-obsessed, DEK should have worked that angle in somehow.
Wedding Bells is a great show. Please give it another chance. Best show on TV
for clean entertainment.
How is it possible that you continue to air mindless shows throughout the week and pull the only one worth watching? I am truly disappointed in Fox and will no longer be tuning in. Wholesome entertainment is no longer provided by the network and I refuse to support any company that would view the movie White Chicks as preferable to Wedding Bells.
Please don’t cancel this show. It was sweet and funny and one of the few on Friday night worth watching…on any channel. We were just getting to know the characters. Please reconsider. Reality shows are boring us to death!
I am so sorry to find out that this show has been cancelled! I LOVE IT! It made me laugh out loud and it brought tears to my eyes as well. I loved the charachters … all of them. The different wedding story each week was so much fun! I can only HOPE that the powers that be rethink this decision and bring it back … maybe in a better time slot would help!! PLEASE BRING IT BACK!
This was one of the funniest family shows lately. i CANNOT believe it was cancelled. it sounds like there’s alot of people wanting it back on the air and i was hoping that all these positive feedbacks could get back to Fox. they’ve reconsidered cancellations before and put them back on – let’s hope they’ll listen now..
I REALLY LIKED THE SHOW..
CAN YOU LEAST TRY PUTTING
IT ON ANOTHER TIME OR DAY….
I WAS JUST STARTING TO TELL PEOPLE TO WATCH IT ON FRIDAY NIGHTS….BRING IT BACK….
Why did you do this? Why? It was the one show we loved. I feel like you’ve taken a good friend from me.
Shame on you!
I want it back!!!!
My husband actually postponed poker to stay home and watch this snow with me! It’s that good. We liked that there was something decent – no – great to watch on Friday’s. However, it would have done much better during the week. White Chicks is trash and what I thought Fox was moving away from. Wedding Bells deserves a better time slot and apparently a better network. I told everyone I knew about this show. The Simpson’s has survived for over a decade and the arrogant, untalented Sanjaya Malakar gets primetime coverage on American Idol. Yet quality television continues to… Read more »
I agree! Please keep this show on the air. It has become my absolute favorite show. The chemistry between the actors is great. It even makes my husband laugh out loud!
