So You Think You Can Dance will return to FOX this May with a huge twist. So You Think You Can Dance: Next Generation will focus on young dancers, and a young dancer has been added to the judging panel.
Maddie Ziegler is best known to audiences from her appearance on Dance Moms, but she is now judging her fellow dancers and not performing. According to Deadline, she will join Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo on the panel, and she is right in line with the age range the series is focusing on – she is 13 years old, and the series plans to spotlight dancers between the ages of 8 to 13.
Ziegler left Dance Moms at the end of season six after being the top dancer on that series. She also appeared in a trilogy of music videos released by Sia.
Are you excited to see the focus changed to young dancers for the upcoming season? Do you plan to watch So You Think You Can Dance this summer? Tell us what you think.
Thank to So you think you can Dance for encouraging dancing for children. As a physical activity, dancing improves children’s physical health and with the growing concern of childhood obesity, this is not an insignificant fact and should be reason enough for parents to embrace it as an extracurricular activity. Increased stamina and strength and improved balance, posture, and coordination are only some of the physical benefits shared by children who dance regularly. It is is a social activity which can help eliminate shyness and where they can pick up new communications skills through partner cooperation and team interaction. Proven… Read more »
The show is complete bogus and lie. All the kids dancing on the show are already famous and they previously were dancing or they were featured on other Bravo shows. They are not a new talent its all a lie. Plus some of them are older too. Everything was staged and real dancers with talent had no chance at the auditions what so ever. I feel sorry for the lines of children that auditioned when in reality everything was already staged. All was fake!!!
I will give it a chance but this is huge change from the quality and maturity of dance we were privileged to watch in earlier seasons. I wonder how the pairing with older
Well they took a fabulous show that was a forum to showcase new dance talent and over the last few seasons have flushed it down the toilet. At least they cut Mary Murphy before she was sullied by their banal attempts to “reinvent” the show. It wasn’t broke and you didn’t fix it.
Don’t usually watch, but certainly will now. I never cease to be amazed by how talented kid dancers are.
I never watched this show before, but now I will!! Good time for a change!! And congratulations to Maddie!!
I can’t believe they never listen to their faithful audience. We didn’t like the judges from last yr and they’re back… we didn’t like the street vs. trained dancers and I’ll bet they slip that in… and now this stuff about putting on kids? Ugh… I’ll probably quit watching, too. It WAS a great show to watch, but now? I’m surprised they aren’t having a cartoon intermission!
Yawn…
Not watching this year.
Bummer
I was a huge fan of SYTYCD but will not be watching SYTYCD:TNG I’m very disappointed where the show is headed. My favorite summer show is gone.
show is a total lie and staged, so is really nothing to watch
