Last May, NBC announced that it would be adding two new medical shows. Trauma would begin airing in the Fall and Mercy would come in early 2010. That plan got messed up when production on Parenthood, another new show, was delayed, and Mercy was brought in early to take its place.
With two new medical dramas on the network, many suspected there was going to be one too many. A few months later, one is struggling to survive and the other has been effectively cancelled.
Trauma revolves around a group of first responder paramedics in San Francisco. The high-action series is populated by an ensemble cast that includes Derek Luke, Cliff Curtis, Anastasia Griffith, Kevin Rankin, Aimee Garcia, Billy Lush, Jamey Sheridan, and Taylor Kinney.
The drama has had problems attracting viewers from the beginning. Its premiere only attracted 6.68 million viewers and a 2.2/5 rating/share of the 18-49 demographic. The following week, the numbers sank to 5.36 million and a 1.7/4. The numbers have been rising slowly since then but not by much. Monday’s episode hit a post-premiere high of 5.77 million and a 1.9/5, putting the show in fourth place for the timeslot.
To no surprise, NBC has decided not to order additional episodes of Trauma. While all 13 episodes of the series will be aired, the network won’t be ordering any more. It’s unknown if the cast and crew will be able to give the show any closure by the last episode.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that Trauma is ending or should it have been cancelled awhile ago?
UPDATE: Trauma returning with new episodes.

I really love Trauma, for a medical show it has more than just an ambulance, it has the helicopter and story lines that aren’t all just medical Drama I hope they reconsider and give this show another shot
completely dissapionted! trauma was the one show my wife and i didn’t fight over the remote for! good action for guys but yet enough drama for the ladies.
Trauma is one of the best medical shows I have ever seen. I fell in love with every single episodes. I hate that the networks want to take it off the air. It’s to good of a show. I bet if they gave it more time. They would see that more views would watch. Please just give the show another season or at least wrap the show up. So, that there is closure. Please
I am so disappointed. I think Trauma had a great ensemble cast and loved each and every episode. This was the new ER for me. I hate that the networks do this kind of thing. At least give the fans some closure.
I’M SO UPSET ABOUT THIS! I LOVED WATCHING TRAUMA! I’D GET MAD WHEN IT GOT MOVED TO ANOTHER NIGHT B/C OF SPORTS! AT LEAST HAVE A 2 HOUR FINALE…GEEZ!
I really love Trauma, for a medical drama it has more than just an ambulance, it has the helicopter, etc., It’s very well rounded, not just the ER. The actors/staff was perfect, please give it more than just one season. It’s more than just an ER, like Mercy, give it more to pleeeeeeze.
I m so angry about this. This is the same as NY Undercover and third watch! I loved. Oth of those shows too. Trauma was a lot of fun and filled the hole that ER left when it was taken off the air.
This show is the best! It has everything: drama, action, romance and comedy. A terrific cast with characters that I would love to see develop over many, many seasons. This show has so much potential. There are enough sitcoms, reality shows, and stupid cartoon shows already. Sometimes shows take some time to attract a following but for pity sake give it more than one season!!!
My Family and I have watched every episode. I’ve never liked any of the other medical dramas before. This one is different. We love all the characters. It has kept us wanting more. We are very let down by NBC’s decision to pull it. We also hope another network will pick it up!
How disappointing. I taped the premier and 6 addt’l episodes. Once I started, I had to pull myself away. All 7 episodes watched by myself, 18 year old daughter & 19 year old son in 36 hrs. We all loved it. I likened the excitement to that of 24 in it’s early days. Any chance this may picked up by another network? It would certainly be a weekly watch for our family!!
This is a GREAT show!!! I don’t know why NBC would cancel this show. Here is a idea if nobody is watching on the date and or time its scheduled try another day and or different time before canceling the show!! As a person that does what the show is about I think its great that there is a show about EMS and not another police drama.
This is a total bummer! I love Trauma!!! It’s soooo much better than Mercy)
I hope another network or cable channel picks this program up. It is one of the finest shows on TV today and one of the few I watch on network TV. I am afraid to get invested in any network programs anymore, because they pull the plug before the show gets a chance to find an audience. This show is so good, that I thought there was no way it would fail. They could budget back on the special effects and stunts, because the cast is great and can carry the show with a little mayhem. So, if it comes… Read more »
I am very disappointed Truama will be cancelled. I think they should give it a different time slot and reevaluate before cancelling.
This sucks! I think this show was great. I started watching it since the premiere and never missed an episode. It was my relax time after a long day at work. If 5 milliion viewers isn’t enough, then what is? They should cancel that stupid Gray’s Anatomy show, but that’s just me!
