Vida is sticking around. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Starz has renewed the TV show for a second season.
A half-hour drama, Vida centers on two estranged Mexican-American sisters who are reunited by tragedy. The cast includes Mishel Prada, Melissa Barrera, Ser Anzoategui, Carlos Miranda, Chelsea Rendon, and Maria-Elena Laas.
Ratings for Vida haven’t been stellar, but it seems Starz has faith in the show so far. The series’ first season averaged a .04 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 130,000 viewers.
From Starz boss Chris Albrecht:
Vida has delivered on its promise of attracting a young, new Latinx audience to the Starz platform, as we had hoped it would, and we are pleased to be able to announce a second season of the series. With these new episodes, Tanya and her team now have the opportunity to take audiences even deeper into the lives and community of the Hernandez sisters, and we look forward to bringing the next chapter of their story to life.”
What do you think? Have you seen Vida? Will you watch season two?
I, too loved this show-even made a trip to Boyle Heights to get a feeling of this community. I think gentrification is a theme most Latinx people are facing in LA, SF, etc. I’m not in the demographic for this show 18-49, but I love it and it’s attention to detail in emotion, setting, and music-it is amazing. I can’t wait for season 2!
Ewwww….becareful going down there. There isn’t enough gentrification yet to make it safe. (kidding, I was born there and still go back and eat in the area and have family there). Yup, gentrification is rapidly consuming Oak Cliff(Dallas version of Boyle Heights) – but like they say no one to blame but ourselves for making money and abandoning our roots.
I love this show! Brought back memories of the eastside!
