I don’t watch a lot of tv shows. Most do not hold my interest. I hate reality shows, as if you care. My dilemma is that the only two shows I want to watch, air on the same night, at the same time. Castle and Hawaii Five -O are both quality shows with a little bit of retro feel. Yes. I am in a little bit older demographic. I hope that they both survive. I’m fortunte that techniology has evolved that I can still enjoy both shows, even if I don’t watch them simultaneously at their identical airedtimes.
I am a faithful watcher of CASTLE, but I’m sure that the ratings don’t have any record of me. I also watch this show on DVD.
The last session of Season 4 finally gave more interest in the interpersonnal relationships of the characters. While the crime studies and the dective work are interesting, sometimes the absence of the drama going on between the characters should get more attention..
What a silly question! Castle is one of the best written and acted week shows on television. It will probably be on for several more years if the quality of the writing is maintained.
Idk how ratings could possibly be down since everything I’ve heard is that season 4 was their most successful season and every time I turn around I hear someone new saying how much they love the show! I am so obsessed with this show…season 5 better not be the last season!!! I think this article is total BS because there is no way castles ratings are on the decline! Castle has a very large and strong fan base…they better not cancel castle until Castle is ready to go!
Castle should definitely be canceled!!!!! It is a terrible, boring show. Nielsen screwed up. There is no way Hawaii Five O (which is a far superior show) blew away Castle in the ratings especially as recent as this summer (Hawaii Five O reruns consistently blew away Castle reruns), and then lost so badly to Castle in the season premiere. Internationally, Hawaii Five O beat out its competition. If the ratings are correct, that tells me that Americans that prefer Castle and Revolution over Hawaii Five O have very bad taste!!!!
First of all, just because someone has a different opinion to yours, doesn’t mean they have bad taste! Second of all, your fourth sentence makes no sense…you said Nielson screwed up because there’s no way Hawaii Five O blew away Castle in ratings because H.F.O. is “far superior”…but guess what? Blew away Castle means that it HAD better ratings, which would make it the better show making your point futile…you obviously meant there was no way Castle blew away Hawaii Five O in the ratings. And Castle is funny, witty and very, very entertaining (of course that’s my opinion, so I won’t say you have bad taste…just bad sentence structure).
Where is your sense of romance? The sexual chemistry between
Castle and Beckett is adorable!….and their chemistry with the entire cast is cute, witty, and refreshing. The plot is original and the acting
Is quality. Give it another try….keep an eye on Kate and Rick and enjoy some old school acting!
Don’t feed the haters. Hawaii 5-0 is the show that is tanking in the ratings. Of course, my saying that does not mean anyone has bad taste. Castle is intelligent and funny at the same time (unlike so much of the toilet humor garbage on TV today and in reality shows), as well as dramatic and sweet. And the actors have ridiculous chemistry. By the way, Neilsen has been measuring ratings for TV shows for a long time, so I seriously doubt they just “screwed up” this once.
Lastly, the author of this article needs to get her facts right. Ruben Santiago-Hudson isn’t on the show anymore, having been replaced by Penny Johnson Jerald. Get your facts right before condemning the show to being cancelled!
Castle is as brilliant as ever. The opening episode to season 5 was phenominal and, as already said, there are loads of news story lines they can introduce to keep it fresh. There is no reason to cancel it, though they need to leave Beckett’s mother’s murder story alone now. Can’t wait for the rest of the season. Thank god for iTunes, so we can watch it almost straight away in the UK.
I honestly torrent it, but then I watch it again at 10 on the West Coast then I DVR it and watch it again. All in all I don’t think they should cancel it because their are fans like me who are insane and watch it 10 times over. I think they need to look at better distribution options and take advantage of its large international audience somehow by offering ads on the videos or letting people subscribe to the ABC feed the next day then they would see a growth in revenue because yes the ratings matter, but only because they need advertisers and the higher the ratings the more money they get from ads. Logic 101 people. Anyway I’ll keep watching right now its against JJ Abrams Revolution because some moron thought it was a good idea to compete it on Monday nights, but I watched Revolution its good, but honestly I can’t see it getting past season 4 because JJ just can’t leave the mystery alone it will be like LOST all over again at the rate it’s going.
I’ve loved Castle since the beginning, but I’m such a fan of prime time TV it’s hard for me to choose between Hawaii Five-0 and Castle (not to mention the other prime time shows). I was able to watch the premiere of Castle last night. I loved it, and I think the show is definitely capable of making up its ratings and going on to a sixth season.
I’ll admit I’m a rabid fan, but if they don’t spice things up a bit this could be a good last season. They’ve finally knocked boots, they’re growing into a good couple, and soon the daughter and mom will be out of the house. It’ll need a big change to sidetrack the inevitable ride into the sunset that follows leads getting together.
Aliens maybe?
WE LOVE CASTLE !!! WHAT IS THERE NOT TO LOVE ??? We stick around even when they “shuffle” the schedule & put the viewers on hold…Could ABC be taking us for granted?
Also, the demographic’s age range (if I understood correctly) is so very limited. What about the rest of us?
WE LOVE CASTLE !!! YES WE DO
What Beckstle said. And let’s not forget the books that are published as marketing tie-ins have consistently hit the NY Times Best-Seller lists and generate their own publicity for the show and ABC. I don’t see how Revolution can sustain more than a season or two, what with it’s plot, whereas Castle has just opened up a whole new world of possible storylines now that Castle and Bckett are together. Lastly, the chemistry between its cast is still awesome after 4 years and the writing is as sharp as ever. Unless the average viewership drops off precipitously from 10 million, there no reason to cancel the show.
Castle is a great show. Castle is the only reason I watch Dancing With
The Stars.
DITTO !!!
Note that ratings for that night are skewed by the show being preempted in timezones for the game. Otherwise would have easily broken 12M viewers.
Seriously? This is a question? Of course it shouldn’t be canceled! Let’s not even talk about the fact that the demo should actually be 25-54. It’s an awesome show that is critcally reviewed well, has a strong fan base, and 10.45 million viewers isn’t exactly awful – especially up against football. It also trounced CBS’s H5O – which is a much younger show. It’s the first episode of the season against a 1st year show which may or may not hold fast to it’s numbers, and a 3rd
year show who’s number just tanked. Given that positioning, why would anyone be thinking about canceling Castle?
Castle is a great series. Fingers crossed that the ratings improve.
