Although its ratings have declined over the years, it was unlikely the Dancing with the Stars TV show would be would be cancelled after season 23 aired last fall, because it remained a strong performer for ABC. The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. Last year comparison: The 22nd cycle of Dancing with the Stars (Spring 2016) averaged a 1.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 10.516 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
