NEW YORK, November 4, 2016 – Comedy Central is gearing up for another epic battle. The #1 brand in comedy is again joining forces with the Roastmaster General Jeff Ross for another round of “Roast Battle,” it was announced today by Kent Alterman, President, Comedy Central. Featuring the world’s most venomous comedians in one-on-one standoffs, the bracket-style insult-comedy tournament first debuted on Comedy Central this summer with comedian Mike Lawrence taking home the crown. “Jeff Ross Presents Roast Battle II” will include preliminary competitions airing consecutive Sundays in January before a four-night main event on January 26-29 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central, with live championship finale.
Inspired by the gritty, competitive proving grounds of the comedy-club circuit, “Roast Battle” main events feature an all-star panel of judges deciding the tournament fate of 16 comedic combatants. Led by Ross and referee/comedian Brian Moses, the “Roast Battle II” main event will be filmed in four nights in Los Angeles. The first three parts air on January 26-28 and the January 29 finals air live same-day. Competitors and judges are to be announced at a later date.
“Roast Battle is a movement. The fans love it and the comics love doing it. I wish all the world’s problems could be settled this way,” said Ross. “I’m grateful to Comedy Central for having the balls to air it live.”
“We will never live up to the epic Roast Battle-level of this presidential campaign, but we will do our best,” said Alterman.
A four-city preliminary-competition tour has been scheduled to seek out the top battlers across the nation, a selection of which will appear in the main event with the to-be-announced additional competitors and judges. The tour dates and locations are Laughing Skull Lounge in Atlanta, Georgia on November 5; Village Underground in New York City on November 7, Comedy Works in Denver, Colorado on November 9, and Comedy Store Belly Room in Los Angeles on November 16.
Each of the ticketed live shows will be filmed and aired weekly in January on Sundays leading up to the premiere of “Roast Battle II.” The first of the four preliminary rounds kick off on Sunday, January 1 at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT on Comedy Central.
